Leader Kim Jong Il of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea devotes his all for the well-being of the people, even dedicating his birth anniversaries.
His field guidance trips have continued day in and day out, even on his birth anniversaries.
February 16, 1982 passed as one of his ordinary workdays. Having worked all previous night, he greeted the dawn in his office. Officials asked him to have a rest, for it was his birthday. But he told them that he was entrusted with the mission of making the country more powerful and prosperous true to the cause of President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994), founder of the DPRK. That day he visited the Moranbong Stadium under renovation (present Kim Il Sung Stadium), and then engaged in other urgent affairs.
On February 16, 1999, he visited a unit of the Korean People's Army to encourage the servicepersons under winter training, and a women's subunit of another KPA unit to look round the barracks, a mess hail and others to take meticulous care of their living conditions.
It is reportedly said that for 35 years since the Korean leader started work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on June 19, 1964, he has spent over 20 anniversaries of his birth, providing field guidance for the country's prosperity and people's well-being. In the new century, too, he gives field guidance at the places where the Korean people are engaged in the building of a great, prosperous and powerful nation, whether it is his birth anniversary or workday.
Kim Jong Il dedicated his birth anniversaries also to either meeting and talking with officials or writing works.
Having spent his birthday of 1974 by conducting unremitting ideological and theoretical activities, he made public on February 19, three days later, a historic work on formulating the revolutionary ideas of President Kim Il Sung as an integral system of ideology, theory and methodology of Juche and on modelling the whole society on the Juche idea. On his birthday in 1984 he convened a meeting of senior officials of the Central Committee of the WPK, and made a speech, On Further Improving the People's Standard of Living, where he expounded such issues related to improving the people's living standards as farming, production of daily necessities, construction of dwelling houses and so on. Though the leader himself always spends his birth anniversaries as if it was ordinary workdays for him, he shows love and care for his people.
When he was spending the night of his birthday in 1993 giving instructions for the Eighth Congress of the League of the Socialist Working Youth in Korea (now Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League), he saw to it that birthday spreads were prepared for over 130 delegates to the congress, who were greeting their birthdays during the congress. One year he awarded decorations to officials of merit on his birthday, and the other year he sent a wedding table to a military officer.
On his birth anniversary every year, the Korean children receive presents sent by the leader Kim Jong Il's birthday, February 16, one of the greatest national holidays of the DPRK, has become a day of the Korean people enjoying themselves under the blessing of their leader rather than a day of him receiving best wishes from his people.
Leader Kim Jong Il of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea always holds his people in respect, saying that if there is an omnipotent entity in this world, it is none other than the people.
When he was a student of Kim Il Sung University in the early 1960s, Kim Jong Il, together with other students, participated in the project of widening the road between Wasandong and Ryongsong in Pyongyang. One day he saw an old woman digging up coal at the site of an old house. He asked her whether she ran out of coal, and she answered that she was doing it, for she could not leave precious coal buried underground. Agreeing with her, he filled her bucket himself. Later, the old woman knew who he was and came to say thanks. But Kim Jong Il told her that he, too, was a son of the working people.
Kim Jong Il says now and then in the following vein: Reality is a fine school and the masses are the teachers, because they know reality better than anybody else and have rich experience. Human history, the process of transforming the world, proves clearly that the strength and wisdom of the masses are inexhaustible. There are no strength greater and no intelligence brighter than those of the masses. I hold them in respect as great teachers and am determined to learn from them throughout my life. This is my maxim.
During a field guidance tour be met a farmer, who told him about rice-growing in the mountainous areas. Afterwards, he often recalled that the farmer taught him a valuable thing. It is only one of many instances.
As he believes in people as in heaven, respects them as teachers, and regards himself as their son, their faithfhl servant, Kim Jong Il administers politics for the people, and the social system centred on the masses has been established in the country, where people have become masters of everything and everything serves them.
He always tells officials that they should be modest, free and easy in approaching the masses. It is his will that officials exist for the people, not vice versa.
It is said that a simple character makes a great man greater. Kim Jong Il's simplicity always strikes everybody with admiration.
Korean people like the song,"Fascination"
Our leader, such a humble man
Our leader, such an ennobling man
So captivates our soul at an instant
O comrade Kim Jong Il
We entrust you with our destiny forever.
All his distinguished personalities featured by his simplicity and easy manners are an expression of his noble traits of regarding himself as a son of the people and mixing himself unceremoniously with them.
When he visits a factory he sometimes shakes workers' greasy hands and chats with them, sometimes operating a machine in person. When he goes to countryside, he sometimes joins farmers in rice-transplantation, talking about farming, and takes food with them in the open air,
One summer day while visiting Changsong at the northern mountainous region of the country he did grass cutting with farmers. When the work was hot, an official went there with an urgent thing, but he could not find Kim Jong Il easily.
He wandered here and there in search of him, before he stopped somebody passing, with two bundles of grass on his shoulder and one at his side, to ask where he could find the leader. He could not but be surprised to know the man was the leader himself.
Kim Jong Il, entrusting himself with a noble duty of serving the people as their son, is now continuing his journey of field guidance without sleep and rest so as to build a socialist thriving state, where his people would live happily with nothing to envy in the world, on the land of Korea as soon as possible.
He is, therefore, enjoying boundless trust and respect of the people who are willing to follow him.
It is not fortuitous that the Korean people deem it their greatest fortune to have Kim Jong Il as their leader and are full of determination to hold him high as their leader for ever.
Kim Jong Il, supreme leader of' the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), excels in ideological and theoretical activities.
His outstanding ideas and theories strengthen and develop the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) into a powerful force that organizes and guides all the' victories of the Korean people.
The WPK, founded with the Juche idea which was' authored by President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994), father of socialist Korea, as its guiding ideology, has led decades-long struggle of the Korean people for socialism with credit.
From the first day when he had started work at the Central Committee of the WPK (June 19, 1964), Kim Jong Il has attached great importance to leading the WPK to fulfil its mission and role as the headquarters of the revolution with credit by achieving unity in ideology and purpose based on the President's revolutionary ideas, His works, such as Let Us Develop Our Party into the Eternal Party of Comrade Kim Il Sung published in June 1964, On Consolidating the Political and Ideological Unity and Cohesion of the Party published in January 1979, and Let Us Further Strengthen the Party and Enhance Its Leadership Role published in June 1989, can be cited as examples. He also gave perfect answers to ideological and theoretical problems arising in the building of a socialist ruling party in several works including Officials Should Become Devoted Servants of the People (October 2003).
In the late 1990s Kim Jong Il formulated Songun politics as the main political mode of socialism, thereby developing the WPK in such a way as to successfully carry on the cause of socialism in the face' of all sorts of threats and challenges of the imperialists. He made public Songun Politics of Our Party Is a Powerful Political Mode of Socialism in July 2001, The Songun-based Revolutionary Line Is a Great Revolutionary Line of Our Era and an Ever- victorious Banner of Our Revolution in January 2003 and other works that provide the WPK with ideological and theoretical guiding principles in thoroughly administering Songun politics to firmly defend and vigorously push ahead with the cause of socialism.
Thanks to his outstanding ide' logical and theOretical activities, the DPRK has developed into an invincible socialist state.
On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction (June 1997), Our Socialism Centred on the Masses Shall Not Perish (May 1991), Let Us Bring the Advantages of Our People's Government into Fuller Play (December1992) and many other works of Kim Jong Il serve as guidelines in the building of the people's government in socialist society. His works comprehensively evolve ideology and theory on building the DPRK into a socialist state centred on the masses of the people, where people have become masters of everything and everything serves them.
He published many works that clarify ways and methods for rapidly boosting the national economy. Such are The 21 Century, a New century, Is an IT Era (March 2001), Let Us Carry Out the Line of Economic Construction in Songun Era Advanced by the Party (August 2003), On Maintaining the Socialist Principles in Economic Work and Giving Full Play to the Advantages of Socialist Economy (June 2008), and Let Us Bring About a Decisive Turn in the Improving of the People's Livelihood by Concentrating Effort on Light Industry and Agricultural Production (March 2010). The DPRK has so far achieved remarkable successes in all fields and sectors of the national economy. It has developed by itself the CNC technology of world standard for its machine-building industry; established the Juche oriented steel-making system, an integrated process of iron and steel making using no cokes and scrap iron, which has been registered as a revolution in the worldwide metallurgical industry; consolidated the foundations of agricultural development by rezoning the crop fields across the country into large-sized, standardized fields and building gravitational waterways. All these achievements are an eloquent proof of the vitality of the Korean leader's ideas and theories.
Kim Jong Il has also attached deep attention to the building. up of the national defence capabilities. To this end, he put forth such ideas and theories as to give priority to military affairs and push ahead with the cause of socialism with the army as the main driving force, the line of economic construction in the Songun era to preferentially develop defence industry while simultaneously developing light industry and agriculture, and other ideas and. theories of weighty significance in promoting the. status of the DPRK to an impregnable military power nobody would dare challenge.
His energetic ideological and theoretical, activities in cultural construction have consolidated and developed universal free medical care and 11-year compulsory education and ushered in the heyday of art and literature.
Unexcelled ideological and theoretical activities of Kim Jong Il have rendered the single- hearted unity of the Korean society and the ideas and faith, of the Korean people ever stronger.
By publishing such works as On Intensifying Ideological Education among Party Members and Other Working People in August 1974 and Let Us Advance, under the Unfurled Banner of Single-Hearted Unity in January 1985, Kim Jong Il put forth the ideas on modelling the whole society on the Juche idea and, based on it, closely rallying all the people into a single force. Thanks to it, the Korean people have armed themselves more thoroughly with the Songun idea that is based on the Juche idea.
His works, Let Us Uphold the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung as the Eternal
President of Our Republic (July 1994), Let Us Make Our Country, Our Motherland, Ever More Prosperous, True to the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Intention (December 1994), Respecting the Forerunners of the Revolution Is a Noble Moral Obligation of Revolutionaries (December 1995) and others have provided the Koreans with an ideological and theoretical source .for becoming, a people of high moral obligation, who uphold President Kim Il Sung in high esteem for ever and respect their, revolutionary forerunners.
In recent years alone Kim Jong Il made public several works, including The Dignity and Might of Songun Korea Should Be Demonstrated on the Strength of Single-Hearted Unity in February 2007, and Let Us Make the Flames of a Great Revolutionary Upsurge Flare Up More Fiercely on All Fronts for the Building of a Great, Prosperous and Powerful Nation by Displaying the Great Mental Strength of Kim Il Sung's Nation in June 2009, in order to inspire the Korean people to the accomplishment of the cause of building a thriving country.
As they are led by Kim Jong Il, outstanding thinker and theoretician, the Korean people will surely emerge victorious in the cause of socialism. .
Kimjongilia Festival
A botanist of a certain country commented that if a flower festival was to be held in the Universe, Kimjongilia should be exhibited as the main flower of the Earth, the common village of humankind.
Kimjongilia was cultivated by Kamo Mototeru, a horticulturist in Japan. He made his painstaking efforts for 20 years, and thus cultivated the most beautiful flower of Begonia family. He decided to name the flower after the greatest person on this planet. While devouring all the available biographies of the world-famous persons, he was completely fascinated by the great personality of Kim Jong Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Korean leader was the greatest man in this world, most distinguished in ideology, leadership and personal qualities. So he named the new flower Kimjongilia, and presented it to Kim Jong Il in February 1988.
On hearing the news of the birth of Kimjongilia, many prominent figures in the political, social and academic circles across the world expressed their wish to raise the flower.
It was, therefore, not long after Kimjongilia had taken its root at the Central Botanical Garden of Pyongyang that the flower began to be propagated in dozens of countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. An Ecuadorean went to the DPRK to learn its cultivation techniques, and on return home, raised the flower with great care with his family.
There are the Nordic Kimjongilia Association formed in Sweden in 1995, and a large number of associations, fans societies and greenhouses for Kimjongilia in many countries and regions, including China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Japan, and Ethiopia.
The flower was awarded gold medals, Grand Prize, and top prizes in the worldwide horticultural exhibitions such as the international flower shows and world horticulture expos held in Bratislava of former Czechoslovakia, Kunming, Jilin and Shenyang of China, and other places.
The deputy director of the Kunming Botanical Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, after participating in the China 99 Kunming World Horticultural Exposition, the grandest in scale in the history of world flower shows, expressed his admiration at Kimjongilia on display, saying: "No flower is as big, red and beautiful as the blossoms of Kimjongilia. Kimjongilia is, indeed, the king of flowers. It well deserves its name."
The American Begonia Society officially registered the Kimjongilia as a new variety No. 991 under the authorization of the International Society for Horticultural Science.
International interest in Kimjongilia encourages many countries over the world to hold Kimjongilia shows. In particular, the Kimjongilia festival in the DPRK has become an annual event in celebration of Kim Jong Il's birthday, February 16. The Kimjongilia festival will greet its 15th round this year.
The festival has grown considerably in the number of flowers presented and visitors to the venues ever since its first round in February 1997.
The first Kimjongilia festival had over 800 pots of Kimjongilias on display and 100 000 visitors; the 14th festival had more than 23 000 pots of Kimjongilia and about 230 000 visitors.
The festival has not been confined to Koreans alone.
During the 141h festival held in 2010, missions of foreign countries and international organizations resident. in the DPRK, organizations from Mongolia, Nepal and other countries, and the US Asia-Pacific Travel Agency put on show Kimjongilia they had grown.
It is expected that more organizations and individuals would present the flowers at the 15th festival.
Head of a Lebanese economic development delegation expressed his impression of the
festival in the following vein:
"This is the first time I have ever seen such a wonderful flower festival as this one. The Kimjongilia Festival is incredibly fascinating. Everywhere in this venue is brimming over with sincere feelings of the Korean people and world peace-loving people who revere and uphold leader Kim Jong Il".
The Kimjongilia festival can be called the largest flower basket presented to the peerlessly great man by entire humankind.
