Strange behavior of some businessman?
by Lyeela Saeeda http://www.weeklyblitz.net/137/strange-behavior-of-some-businessman
Azam Jahangir Chowdhury in a petition filed with the government sought withdrawal of the Taka 30 million extortion case against the Awami League chief, Sheikh Hasina, stating the case had been filed over misunderstanding at a difficult situation. Chowdhury will discontinue the extortion case he filed against Awami League Sheikh Hasina and her cousin Sheikh Selim about one and a half ago. Azam Chowdhury also submitted an application with the home ministry seeking an executive order for withdrawal of the case through the court concerned. According to Azam, "The case against Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Selim was filed due to some misunderstanding in the adverse circumstances prevailing at that time." Azam, Managing Director of business house East Coast Trading Ltd., termed filing of this case as an undesirable experience for him. Question remains, 'THEN WHY"? Interestingly and ridiculously he says, "I'm withdrawing the charges as a matter of principle, and out of respect for democracy and fundamental rights. I hope this would put an end to all misunderstanding." Chowdhury is possibly not even kidding with the nation, he is doing something worse! For obvious reasons Hasina can sue against Azam even though he withdraws the case for defamation but Azam says again most possibly considering all citizens of the country as NUTS, "I'm confident she won't do anything like that. As the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a former prime minister, she is respectful to democracy." What a silly statement! As he was asked if he is pulling back under pressure from any quarters, Azam replied, "Long before now I had said I didn't file the case directly against Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana. They were implicated following Selim's statement." Now, another interesting part of the story, reason for payment made to Sheikh Selim, Azam said, Selim was a consultant of Russian company TECHNOPROM which is represented in Bangladesh by East Coast Trading Limited and he had paid the money at the instruction of the principal company. Then, why did he harass Selim in the first place? The home affairs ministry, however, said it had not received any such letter from Azam J Chowdhury with regard to the withdrawal of the case. receive the latest by email: subscribe to weekly blitz's free mailing list Comment on this item |
