A cricket jersey signed by Kevin O'Brien and all members of the Ireland World Cup Cricket was sold for $1,000 at auction to benefit Dhaka's street children. Alan Morrison, Consul at the British High Commission in Dhaka, said O'Brien – the 'golden boy' of cricket who scored the fastest century ever in the history of the Cricket World Cup – agreed to donate the jersey and sign it on the condition any funds raised would benefit a Bangladesh charity. The auction was organised by Sir Frank Peters and the Ali Akbar Helping Hand Club to help school Dhaka's slum children. Foremost Bangladeshi hero Musa Ibrahim of Mount Everest fame said the jersey reminded him it was Australian-based Irish lawyer Brendan O'Mahoney who saved his life as he made his decent from the summit. "My oxygen tank developed a fault and without proper oxygen supply I had just wanted to sleep, which would have been fatal. It was the closest to death I had ever been, but Brendan literally talked me back to life and would not allow me to sleep. "In Ireland anyone who is talkative is known to have 'the gift of the gab'. I'm grateful Brendan has this gift – and used it wisely!" said Musa.
