Even few years back, officials, politicians and even envoys of Western nations were visibly dictating Bangladeshi policymakers on various issues. It became almost a regular phenomenon seeing Westerners poking nose into internal affairs of this country and making unjust comments and suggestions. When Bangladeshi court gave verdict in Grameen Bank [GB] case terminating Dr. Yunus from the post of chief executive of the bank, a number of influential figures in the world, including the Secretary of States Hillary Clinton, Democrats and even the White House started passing comments on this issue defending Yunus and suggesting his continuation in the post of the chief executive of the bank. There had also been similar efforts by some other politicians in the world in favor of the founder of GB. US ambassador in Bangladesh was actively lobbying in favor of Dr. Yunus and was meeting officials and policymakers in somehow salvaging the sinking vessel of Dr. Yunus, who was sacked from the post of managing director of Grameen Bank on valid legal grounds. Though Yunus' termination was legal, some of the political pundits were predicting ultimate bowing down of Bangladeshi policymakers to Western powers, thus reinstating Yunus in the post of the chief executive of Grameen Bank. Dr. Yunus was also feeling confident and at some point even proud of his 'influence' and was sure that the government will sit with him for any negotiation on this issue. It may be mentioned here that, Yunus is a family friend of former US President Bill Clinton, who played important role in letting Yunus receive the Nobel Peace Prize few years back. And Yunus tried to cash such relations in not only spreading his name in the world, but also tried his best in putting pressure on Bangladesh government in bowing down to his illegal and unjust demand of remaining in the post of chief executive of Grameen Bank for ever. But, of course, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has very boldly handled this issue. She has left a clear signal to the world, especially those Westerners, who voiced in favor of Yunus that, Bangladesh, being a sovereign nation has no reason to pay any heed to their unjust and unwelcomed suggestions and comments. This is a victory of Bangladeshi democracy and democratic government. Now, Sheikh Hasina's government should initiate proper investigation into the crimes and corruptions committed by Dr. Yunus. There should also be investigation to find out as to who gave instigations and funding to a section of Grameen Bank employees, who demonstrated in favor of Yunus. The West now should take lesson from this latest development. There is no more room for them in poking nose into internal affairs of other nations. Bangladesh will never be dictated by the West or any other forces. Defeat of Yunus in the battle on Grammen Bank is equally a defeat of Hillary Clinton and all others, who barked in favor of Dr. Yunus.
