Mamata Bannerjee, who is knows a 'Didi' [sister] amongst the people in West Bengal for her commitment, honesty and loving attitude towards people, has finally been able to smash the 34-year old Communist Dynasty in the West Bengal, thus freeing the people from the captivity of Marxism. The chief minister of West Bengal and prominent Marxist leader, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has been defeated at the difference of more than sixteen thousand votes. A large number of Marxist ministers have also been bogged down during this historic election in West Bengal. Trinamul Congress led by Mamata Bannerjee has been able to get sweeping victory in the West Bengal election bagging 225 seats, while Marxists got 63. Most importantly, Hindu ultra-nationalist party, Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] has been totally rejected by the voters, as it failed to get even a single seat in the election. It is widely expected that Mamata Bannerjee will be the next chief minister of Bengal. Mamata Bannerjee's alliance capitalized on widespread disillusionment with the Communists by voters who blamed them for the state's failure to share in India's rapid economic growth. There was also anger at Communist-orchestrated attacks on poor farmers who protested against the confiscation of their land for sale to major corporate investors in the state. Mamata Banerjee was born to Promileswar and Gayatri Banerjee on 5 January 1955, in Calcutta [now Kolkata], West Bengal, India. She grew up from a lower middle-class family and then started her political career with the Congress. And, as a young woman in the 1970s, she quickly rose in the ranks to become the general secretary of the state Mahila Congress [1976–80]. She was a college-going adult in the mid-seventies when politics in Bengal had begun to accommodate the riffraff. Uninhibited, she jumped up and danced on the bonnet of Jaiprakash Narayan's car. Throughout her political life she maintained an austere lifestyle and never spent money on clothes, cosmetics and jewellery and slung a cotton bag on her shoulder. There have been questions raised on the reality of her austere life style by her colleague Subrata Mukherjee. She has remained single throughout her life. On May 13, 2011 she led the TMC-Congress alliance to a landslide victory in the West Bengal assembly elections and is slated to lead the first non-left government in West Bengal after 34 years. She graduated with an honours degree in History from the Jogamaya Devi College, an undergraduate women's college in southern Kolkata. Later she earned a master's degree in Islamic History from the University of Calcutta. This was followed by a degree in education from the Shri Shikshayatan College. Later, she earned a law degree from the Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College, Kolkata. All of these Kolkata based institutions [Jogamaya Devi College, Shri Shikshayatan College and the Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College] are affiliates of the University of Calcutta. Mamata Bannerjee's victory is a victory of the anti-Communists in India as well as it shows to the world, that Mamata Didi reached to this huge victory with her fullest dedication and commitment in serving the people and the nation. On the other hand, defeat of the Communists and Marxists in West Bengal should be followed by complete elimination of such forces from the politics. Because, Communists, leftists and Marxists in the world today are nothing but, mere advantage hunters. My warmest congratulations to Mamata Bannerjee and the voters in West Bengal.
