Some 50 Years Ago and the Flag of the WPK

On June 19, 1964 Kim Jong Il started working at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. He burned the midnight oil in his office on his first day at the Party Central Committee, and went out to the garden early at dawn. Looking at the Party flag flying on top of the building of the Party Central Committee, he said to officials to this effect: Our Party flag bears the great history of revolutionary activities of President Kim Il Sung. Now we must carry that red flag. To develop the WPK into the eternal party of Comrade Kim II Sung-this is my lifelong task.

With this iron faith and will Kim Jong Il has vigorously pushed ahead with Party work. He conducted extraordinary and energetic ideological and theoretical activities, explaining scientifically that Kim Il Sung's revolutionary ideology, the Juche idea, is the guiding idea of the present times, the era of independence. He then proclaimed the programme of imbuing the whole society with the Juche idea and cemented rock-solid the unity and cohesion of the Party under one ideology and purpose. Thanks to his leadership the WPK has further strengthened into an ideologically pure entity and organizational integrity in which its entire membership is closely rallied behind the leader.

By putting forth the slogan "Let the whole Party go among the masses!" he made sure that the Party struck its root deep among the masses and enjoyed their absolute support and trust.

Under his guidance the WPK has further been strengthened into an invincible party, demonstrating its might throughout the world.

Ever-victorious Banner of the Socialist Cause

The nearly half-a-century-long history of Kim Jong Il's leadership of the WPK is a course of his struggle to keep the red flag of revolution fly invariably in the tempest of history.

Toward the end of the 80s and the early 90s of the last century several ruling parties in socialist countries collapsed, lowering the red flags that they had kept flying for decades; however, the red flag of the WPK flew higher and more powerfully.
Kim Jong Il made public such famous works as On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building, Abuses of Socialism Are Intolerable, Socialism Is a Science, and Giving Priority to Ideological Work Is Essential for Accomplishing Socialism, providing irrefutable proof of the truth and scientific accuracy of socialism, and setting forth fundamental principles of revolutionary party building and its activities, and correct strategic lines a revolutionary party should adhere to. They constitute basic guarantee for the WPK to advance along the road of implementing the cause of socialism without the slightest vacillation in the worldwide political upheavals.

In order to cope with the situation, in which prejudice, tyranny and high-handedness of the United States posing itself as a "victor of the Cold War" and "world's only superpower," prevailed, Kim Jong Il formulated Songun politics as the basic political mode of socialism, and led forward the cause of the Party, cause of socialism, by dint of the invincible military strength. He elucidated the principle that the Party is the army and the army is the Party, and ensured that the Party's leadership of the army was enhanced in every way. It is his constant view that the invincibility of a revolutionary party is guaranteed when the army defends it by force of arms, and the revolutionary army can emerge matchless only under the leadership of a revolutionary party.

The correctness of this view has been proved in the course of history. The Workers' Party of Korea., supported by the strong Korean People's Army, is now demonstrating its prestige and dignity as an ever-victorious, powerful party.
The flag of the WPK is flying higher in the DPRK as the banner of all victories and miraculous achievements.

Though the country has long been under the extreme sanctions and blackmail of the imperialist allied forces, it successfully launched two artificial earth satellites in 1998 and 2009, respectively; seized supremacy in the CNC technology, the cutting-edge technology in the machine-building industry; perfected the steel-making system using no coke and iron scraps, and completed the reclamation project of Taegyedo Tideland, thus making the map of Korea to be redrawn and reclaiming a vast area of tidal flat. And it is now making brilliant successes in the construction projects of the Huichon Power Station and 100,000 flats in Pyongyang. and other major projects, all aimed at opening the gates of a thriving nation in 2012. The credit goes to the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The flag of the Workers' Party of Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong Il will fly forever as an unfurled banner of the cause of socialism.
