Excellent Mode of Government

The Korean people are now bringing about innovations in all sectors and units with a determination to open the gate to a great, prosperous and powerful nation in 2012, the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung. They are pushing ahead with the building of a prosperous nation as they wish, despite the complex situation in Northeast Asia. At the bottom of this lies Songun politics, a unique mode of government of their own.

Songun politics is a mode of government by which to defend the country, revolution and socialism and accelerate overall socialist construction with the Korean People's Army as the core force and main agency, giving priority to military affairs as the primary of state affairs. Songun politics makes it possible to fully realize the fundamental ideal and goal of socialism. Socialism is an ideology that reflects the popular masses' desire to live a free, equal and affluent life, and the fundamental ideal and goal of socialism consist in the realization of the masses' independence. The fundamental ideal and goal of socialism cannot be realized without the relentless struggle against the dominationist forces that attempt to infringe on the independent needs and interests of the popular masses, resorting to the policy of high-handedness and power.

At present, the US imperialists, under the name of "counterterrorist war," are flagrantly violating the sovereignty of those countries and nations that follow the path of independence against imperialism. And socialist Korea that is advancing stoutly as ever under the banner of independence and socialism is not excepted from the targets of the US imperialists' anti-socialist manoeuvres. The fundamental ideal and goal of socialism can never be realized without stopping the US and other imperialist reactionaries from anti-socialist manoeuvres. It would be silly to expect mercy from or place hopes on the imperialists who are behaving outrageously in disregard of the established international law or order.

Songun politics makes it possible to resolutely frustrate the dominationist forces' military threats and blackmails and their aggressive moves, and to fully realize the fundamental ideal and goal of socialism, by strengthening domestic military power in every way while giving priority to military affairs as the most important of all state affairs. Songun politics makes sure that the People's Army with the strongest revolutionary spirit and sense of organization and discipline is put up as the main force of the revolution and construction and that all the people including the working class actively learn from the army, so that the political and ideological might of the revolutionary ranks is strengthened to the utmost. Herein lies the key to the success of socialist Korea that has set such a high goal as of building a prosperous and powerful nation and has achieved eye-opening miracles and innovations in socialist construction as a whole in face of the difficult conditions.

Songun politics displays its might as a socialist mode of government in the economic and cultural construction as well. The line of economic construction with the emphasis placed on the strengthening of defence capabilities which is pursued by Songun politics is far from neglecting the improvement of the people's living standards and all other aspects of economic construction. Rather, the strengthening of defence capabilities has led to the development of heavy industry which, in its turn, has given a strong boost to the development of light industry and agriculture, thus activating economic construction as a whole. This makes it possible to attain the goal of building an economic power in the shortest possible time.

In socialist Korea today, the army and the people are bringing about a new revolutionary upsurge in their endeavours to build a prosperous nation under the slogan: "Korea does what it is determined to do!" The results include the creation of solid foundations for mass production of Juche iron, Juche fibre and Juche fertilizer, the mushrooming of CNC-based production centres and the world-astonishing achievements in nuclear and information technologies and other cutting-edge fields.

Amazing progress has been made in the fields of education, public health and sports to meet the requirements of the new century, and all the people are turning their living quarters and working places into socialist realms of comfort and prosperity while living and working optimistically full of joy and fun.

The fact that such events and miracles have been brought about in socialist Korea despite the complicated and tense political situation and the global economic depression fully proves that Songun politics is the most powerful and valid mode of government for socialist construction.
