Porimol Joydhor, the most infamous rapist of a number of girl students of Dhaka's prestigious education institute for girls, Viqarunnisa School and College [VNSC] is reported counting days of getting released on bail. Joydhor was the teacher of Bangla department of the school's Bashundhara campus. According to complaint lodged by the father of the victim girl, Porimol, who was running a coaching centre at his Badda residence, first molested his female student on May 28, 2011. The girl student remained silent and did not bring this matter to the attention of her parents fearing social condemnation. As the student went to the coaching centre next day, Porimol asked her to wait in another room. Later he locked the door and raped the student once again. For the third time, Porimol violated her once again on June 17, 2011. On the basis of the complaint, Detective Branch arrested this culprit a day after the complaint was registered with Badda Police Station in Dhaka. But the law enforcing agencies did not take any legal action against two other collaborators of the rapist teacher for reason unknown. It is learnt from dependable sources that, Porimol Joydhor was appointed at VNSC when Awami League government came in power in 2009, on the basis of political consideration, as the rapist was a member of the student wing of the ruling party during his student life. Following the arrest of Porimol Joydhor, former and current students of VNSC went into various forms of movement pressing the demand of exemplary punishment of the culprit teacher. After the arrest of Porimol Joydhor, the victim girl made judicial statement at the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shamima Parveen under the Special Act for Prevention of Women and Children Repression. Earlier on July 11, 2011 the culprit Porimol Joydhor also made confessional statement at the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan. In this statement, Porimol confessed of raping the girl twice. Within 3 days of making confessional statement at the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate, culprit Porimol Joydhor submitted a petition for cancellation of the statement. The court rejected the plea as it was not done in due process of the law. Later, Porimol submitted a second petition through the prison authorities, which is reportedly under active process. It is anticipated that the confessional statement of this ex-member of the student wing of the ruling party would be withdrawn soon. It may be mentioned here that, Porimol Joydhor raped at least 12 girl students of VNSC on various occasion, since he was appointed as the teacher of the school. Because of his political background, Detective Branch is feeling shy in pressing charge against Porimol Joydhor. It is learnt from a source inside Detective Branch that, some influential members of the ruling party are negotiating with the family of the victim girl with the aim of getting the complaint withdrawn. On the other hand, the Detective Branch has been instructed to "go slow" on the issue of submitting charge sheet against rapist Porimol Joydhor. The same source indicated that, under the provisions of Special Act for Prevention of Women and Children Repression, the accused is unable to get bail within 90 days of arrest. In this case, the investigators are creating room for Porimol by delaying the process for minimum ninety days, so that he can seek bail. Another accused in the case and collaborator of Porimol Joydhor, Husne Ara Begum, principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College was not arrested. Rather she was allowed to go on 3-month's leave from July 14, 2011. Students of VNSC and their guardians have been demanding immediate removal of Husne Ara Begum and taking her to custody for abetting such heinous crime. It is also learnt from dependable sources that, Husne Ara Begum will be returning to her post as the principal of VNSC on October 14, 2011 on completion of her leave term. It may be mentioned here that, during the 1996-2001 term of Bangladesh Awami League government, hundreds of girl students of Jahangir Nagar University were raped in broad-day-light by the members of the student wing of the ruling party. This time again, when the party came back in power in 2009, same incident of rape took place at the same university, and the government did not take any actions against the culprit rapists.
