Bangladeshi PM cheers Gaddafi's fall

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed joy over the fall of Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi. While speaking at a discussion meeting organized by the student from of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, the Prime Minister said, Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader who had given shelter to the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is witnessing his own fall. She said, Colonel Gaddafi wrote her a letter in 1996 requesting her to forgive the Bangabandhu's killers -- Faruk and Rashid.

"Gaddafi in his letter cited a quotation from holy Quran. I also replied to him with another quotation from Quran... I said that if I would not try to bring the killers to law, I won't perform my duty as the daughter of a father," Hasina said.

She also alleged General Hussain Muhammed Ershad, [who now is an important coalition partner in the ruling grand alliance government] for trying to patronize the killers of her father.

Sheikh Hasina is the president of the rulling Bangladesh Awami League. Her father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with other members of the family on August 15, 1975. Later, Colonel Gaddafi accorded political asylum to the main killers of the founding father of Bangladesh.

This is the first ever statement from any of the policymakers in Bangladesh government following the anti-Gaddafi movements in Libya. Bangladesh so far maintained tight-lipped any making any statement on the issue. It may be mentioned here that Libya employs huge number of Bangladeshi workers.
