Kim Jong Il provides field guidance to different sectors, sees performances

Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, inspected the KPA Navy Command.

Looking round the rooms dedicated to education in revolutionary achievements and the history of the navy, he recalled the proud course covered by the navy with deep emotion.

In the course of its development the KPA Navy gave full play to its might to perform brilliant feats by sinking and destroying lots of enemy warships. During the Fatherland Liberation War four torpedo boats of the KPA Navy sank the US heavy cruiser Baltimore in the naval battle at Jumunjin to achieve the result unprecedented in the world history of naval engagement.

He visited the operations research room to get familiar with the command's performance of military duty.

He spoke highly of all the men and officers of the command for performing guard duty while keenly observing the enemy's aggressive moves and expressed great satisfaction with the fact that all the commanding officers and staff are preparing themselves to be able to command naval operations in any difficult circumstances.

Referring to the great importance of the position and role of the navy in Korea which is bounded by the sea on three sides, he put forward tasks that would serve as guidelines in strengthening and developing the naval force.

Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm and the Taedonggang General Fruit Processing Factory.

The first leg of his inspection tour was the combined fruit farm whose capacity has been expanded.

On his arrival at the farm Ri Myong Su, minister of People's Security, reported to him on the successful completion of the farm's capacity expansion project.

The builders rezoned the land of the orchard covering an area of some 1 000 hectares in three stages, planted over 3.6 million fruit trees, laid roads with a total length of more than 140 kilometres and built houses for about 1 260 families.

In particular, they wonderfully built an apple breeding farm with an area of 50 hectares and established the system of producing fruit saplings by tissue culture, thereby laying a solid foundation for producing and supplying saplings by the farm itself.

In front of a large picture showing an overall view of the combined fruit farm the leader was briefed on the Taedonggang Pig Farm, Taedonggang Terrapin Farm and Taedonggang Net-weaving Factory which have newly been built in the area. He then made the rounds of different places of the combined fruit farm including the Taedonggang Apple Breeding Farm to acquaint himself with the construction and fruit cultivation.

He saw farm machines newly provided by a relevant unit for the production of fruit in the farm and praised the efforts of the officials who are making a big contribution to the development of fruit culture.

He said that in order to rapidly develop fruit farming at the combined fruit farm in line with the requirements of the developing reality it is necessary to raise the level of introduction of scientific, modern and intensive methods into fruit cultivation onto a higher standard.

The next leg of his inspection tour was the newly built general fruit processing factory.

The factory with a total floor space of 49 000 square metres is a modern and comprehensive fruit processor which is capable of condensing fruit and turning out tens of thousands of tons of various processed fruit goods a year.

After hearing explanations about the technical features of the factory he looked round the processes for condensing fruit and producing juice, soda pop, apple vinegar and apple perfume which are equipped with latest facilities and other places to become familiar with the construction and production.

He appreciated the highly creative spirit and devotion to the people of officials, workers and technicians of relevant sectors who are working hard to improve the people's living standard by devoting all their intelligence and passion.

He noted that an important task to be tackled by the factory is to produce a wide variety of more processed fruit articles conducive to the improvement of the people's livelihood and ensure the highest level of their quality and hygienic safety by relying on the newly laid production base.

Kim Jong Il saw a performance given by the State Merited Chorus to mark the 58th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

Through the militant performance the entertainers sang highly of the brilliant exploits performed by the DPRK army and people who had defeated the US-led imperialist allied forces for the first time in history and safeguarded the freedom and independence of the country and powerfully demonstrated the fighting spirit of annihilating the enemy of the strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu which is determined to mercilessly smash the US imperialists and confrontation maniacs who are eager to start another war and impregnably defend the socialist country on the strength of the arms of Songun if they dare intrude into even an inch of the inviolable airspace, territory and waters of the country.

Kim Jong Il saw a performance given by the National Symphony Orchestra.

During his inspection of the KPA Navy Command and production establishments and viewing of the performances he was accompanied by Kim Jong Un, Choe Yong Rim, Ri Yong Ho, Kim Ki Nam and other senior Party and military officials and members of the WPK Central Military Commission.
