The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) is demonstrating its might to the whole world as an ever-victorious party. What, then, makes the WPK emerge victorious all the time? The first secret is its guiding ideology, the Juche idea, authored by President Kim Il Sung, founding father of socialist Korea and founder of the Party.

The Juche idea means, in. a nutshell, that man is the master of his own destiny and is capable of shaping it. In other words, it means that the masters of the revolution and construction are the masses of the people and that they are the motive force of the revolution and construction. The idea is recognized as. an idea guiding the cause of global independence as well as the WPK.

Kim Jong Il has applied the Juche idea in a thoroughgoing way in the whole course of his leadership of the WPK. He put forward the idea of modelling the entire Party on the Juche idea, and equipped all the Patty members with that idea; on the basis of this, he consolidated the Party into an entity of ideological purity with one ideology, the leader's revolutionary ideas. He: also led the WPK to conduct its work, to all intents and purposes, in conformity with the requirements of the Juche idea. Thus, the Party solved all the problems arising in the revolution and construction from the independent judgment and opinion as suited to the actual conditions of the country and the desire of the Korean people. At the end of the 20th century, when the ruling parties of several socialist countries collapsed one after another, the WPK remained unperturbed.. Though the imperialist allied forces manoeuvred to isolate and stifle the DPRK, it not only firmly defended the banner of socialism without any slightest vacillation but is now advancing dynamically towards the goal of building a great, prosperous and powerful socialist country. This testifies to the fact that the Juche idea, which the WPK invariably holds fast to as its guiding ideology in its activities, is a great ideology for its scientific accuracy and truthfulness.

The second secret is the unity and cohesion of the entire Party.

The unity and cohesion of a party is one of the key factors, on which hinges its destiny. From his early days of leading the WPK, Kim Jong Il channelled great efforts to consolidating it into one, which is pure in its ideology, highly organized and united in action. It thus formed a complete harmonious whole of millions of its members moving as one. Holding the slogan "When the Party is determined, we can do anything" all its members turn out as one in the struggle for implementing the Party's lines and policies without any conditions attached. It demonstrates its might as the most powerful party by dint of its sense of organization and discipline, the might of unity and fighting efficiency.

The might of the unity and cohesion of the WPK is based not only on the unity of ideology and will but on the sense of moral obligation. All its work and activities are conducted by the voluntary and conscious efforts of its members, and solid unity and cohesion based on comradeship has been established throughout it. Thanks to such unity and cohesion, the WPK has had no factions or disputes between them, a phenomenon common in the parties of other countries.

The steel-like unity and cohesion of the WPK produced the single-hearted unity of all the people and the entire army in the Korean society. The single-hearted unity, unbreakable even by a nuclear bomb, is one of the major factors which enables socialist Korea to emerge victorious by surmounting any harshest trials.

The third secret is that it enjoys absolute support and trust of the people.

The idea of The people are my God, and the Party's slogans "Let the whole Party go among the masses!" and "We serve the people!" are the fundamental principle and starting-point of all its activities. As it has enforced such people-oriented measures as free medical care and free education, and pursued benevolent politics and all-embracing, politics, so as to take responsible care of the people's destiny and future, the Korean people place absolute trust in it and follow it invariably, calling it their mother. A party based on such mass foundation always emerges victorious-this is a truth proved by history.

The fourth secret is that the Party commands the army and advances the socialist cause as a whole by raising the army as the main force and a buttress of the revolution.

Proceeding from the actual situation of Korea, where. The socialist cause is being carried on amidst a fierce struggle against the imperialist forces, Kim Jong Il cast light on the fundamentals of Songun, that the army means the Party, the state and the people, and administered Songun politics. That if the military power of a country is weak; it cannot defend its sovereignty and dignity is a serious lesson of the past history and, in particular, the present realities of the international community.

Kim Jong Il paid primary attention to fully ensuring the WPK's leadership of the army and the ideological education of the service personnel. During his ceaseless on-site guidance at the army units, he bestowed love and trust on the service personnel and led them to be strong in ideology and firm in faith. He made sure that all the people emulated the revolutionary soldier spirit created by the service personnel, and that the spirit of safeguarding socialism prevailed throughout society.

Thanks to Songun politics pursued by the WPK, the Korean people crushed the imperialists' anti-socialist, stifling offensives, and brought about a radical turn in the building of a great, prosperous and powerful country. Korea is now achieving miraculous successes-which have not been witnessed in human history-in the building of a thriving nation amidst the adverse situation. The world keenly realizes that Songun politics the WPK pursues is an ever-victorious sword in carrying out the socialist cause.

The WPK's Strategic Line of Attaching Importance to Science and Technology

Attaching importance to science and technology is a strategic line the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) maintains in the building of a great, prosperous and powerful nation. The viability of this line has been proved during the period of previous ten years since the socialist Korea set out the ambitious plan of building a great, prosperous and powerful nation.

Among those who obtained doctorate are a father and his three sons, many couples, a mother and her daughter, sisters and other family members of working-class origin.

National festivals of science and technology, and exhibitions and seminars on. science and technology in their respective fields are held, ensuring that valuable results of research are widely made public and applied to production. Amid the nationwide mass campaigns tens of thousands of technical innovations have been made over the last ten years.

Particularly noteworthy in the scientific and technological successes made by the Korean scientists and technicians is that they secured supremacy in CNC technology.

During his on-site guidance at various machine-building factories Kim Jong Il set out, concrete ways and methods of CNC application.

The Ryonha Machine development team developed CNC technology in a unique way and produced 5-, 6-, 7- and 8-axis high-performance machine tools in succession. It was not the Ryonha Machine technological personnel alone that produced CNC machines.

The Korean people are making vigorous efforts to break through the cutting edge in all fields in their drive to build a thriving nation under the leadership of the WPK.

The WPK is determined to make the country a front-ranker in the era of the knowledge economy by surpassing in the shortest period the world's scientific and technological standards in every field on the basis the of unchallenged supremacy in CNC technology.

The slogan "Break through the cutting edge!" is ubiquitous in Korea and a song reflecting the slogan is one of the most popular songs: Literally a syndrome of breaking through the cutting edge spreads the whole country.

Miraculous successes are made one after another in Korea. Two artificial earth satellites made entirely on its own efforts and skills were successfully launched and nuclear fusion, technology developed. Particularly, vinalon fibre production lines were completely updated relying on domestic resources, and a. large number of factories and enterprises were technically renovated, putting their production on a specialized, modern and scientific basis.
