Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, provided field guidance to the Thaesong Machine Plant. He went round the room devoted to the education in the revolutionary history, conducted by leading officials of the plant. Stopping before the board bearing the proposition of President Kim Il Sung that the name of the DPRK should be engraved on the machines manufactured by the plant, he recollected with deep emotion the devoted efforts made by the President for the development of the plant. After seeing data on labor innovators including winners of Order of Kim Il Sung and Kim Il Sung Youth Honor Prize and labor heroes, and February 16 Science and Technology Prize the plant received, he appreciated the plant's great contribution to the development of the nation's machine-building industry and scientific and technological development. Dropping in at the Machine Assembling Shop, he acquainted himself in detail with the production and scientific and technological researches there. Watching new machines produced by the plant, he was greatly satisfied with the fact that the workers, scientists and technicians of the plant have successfully manufactured machines based on the latest science and technology capable of representing the Songun era by giving full play to the extraordinary creative spirit. Examining the newly researched and developed machine parts one by one, he praised the plant for successfully producing machine parts requiring high precision difficult to process. Informed that the plant is successfully manufacturing machines of which it could hardly think in the past by putting all production processes on a CNC basis, he said that a high-pitched drive for putting production processes on a CNC basis is now under way in various parts of the country, bringing about world-startling achievements. Learning about cultured practices in production and hygiene and supply service at the plant, he praised the plant for successfully managing and operating itself and providing good supply service for its workers in line with behests of the President. He looked round gravity-fed river pond, fry pond, fish pond, a hatchery and other places of the farm to learn about the fish breeding. He watched with satisfaction for a long time the shoals of fishes as big as forearm sailing in the pond. After acquainting himself again with the doubled production in the pond with fishes growing faster than in other ponds as their metabolism is promoted when going upstream, he said this method deserves to be popularized. He expressed again great satisfaction over the fact that employees of the farm spruced up the fishing ground in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and bred plenty of fishes, thereby making positive contribution to improving the people's diet. He highly appreciated their devoted service. He said the people can actually benefit from the farm as it is not only situated in the right area rich in source of quality water and good in breeding but is equipped with sufficient facilities needed for fish production. After looking round the farm, he advanced tasks in breeding more fishes. Fish farming is cost-effective and highly profitable field, he said, adding this is also the most rapid way for supplying the people with fresh fishes in all seasons. It is necessary to positively study, develop and introduce good breeds which grow fast while eating less feed, he said. Fish farming should be put on a scientific, intensive and industrial basis. It is essential to solve the scientific and technological problems in the field of fish farming from the Juche stand and, at the same time, steadily enhance the role of feeders and technicians, he added. He expressed expectation and belief that the officials and employees of the farm would rapidly increase the fish production and thus make positive contribution to realizing the desire of PresidentKim Il Sung who was considerate of supplying the people with abundant fishes in his lifetime.
