Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, on November 17 met with the visiting Chinese high-level military delegation led by Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China and director of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Present at the meeting were General Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the WPK Central Military Commission, Ri Yong Ho, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, Jang Song Thaek, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and vice-chairman of the DPRK NDC, Kim Jong Gak, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and first deputy director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, and KPA generals Kim Won Hong and Pak Jae Gyong. Present there from the Chinese side were Li Jinai, member of the CPC Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the CPLA, Lieutenant General Ding Jiye, deputy director of the CPLA General Logistics Department, Lieutenant General Chen Xiaogong, deputy commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Wang Dengping, political commissar of the North Sea Fleet of the Navy, Lieutenant General Zhao Zongqi, chief of the Staff of the Jinan Military Area, Major General Kan Likui, vice-director of the Operation Department of the General Staff of the CPLA, Major General Ci Guowei, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defence, Major General Li Fengshan, deputy secretary-general of the General Office of the General Political Department of the CPLA, Chinese ambassador Liu Hongcai and Chinese military attaché Sun Yanfeng. Li Jinai conveyed to Chairman Kim Jong Il kind-hearted greetings of Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and president of the People's Republic of China, and other members of the CPC central leadership. He expressed the sincerest thanks to the DPRK leader for sparing the precious time to meet the Chinese high-level military delegation despite his tight schedule of leading the building of a thriving nation. He said that while staying in Pyongyang he saw the fraternal Korean people and army making brilliant achievements in various sectors under the leadership of the WPK headed by Kim Jong Il and was specially impressed by them. He noted that the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship established and developed by the old generation of leaders of the two countries has entered a new phase of development under the close concern of Hu Jintao and Kim Jong Il. He said that high-level visits between the two countries are gaining momentum, important agreements have been reached on boosting the friendship and cooperation and bilateral exchange and cooperation are witnessing steady and rich achievements in different fields including politics, the economy and the military. He stated that it is the steadfast policy of the Chinese Party, government and army to carry out the common recognition achieved by the leaders of the two countries and bolster up the friendship and cooperation between the peoples, particularly the armies, of the two countries. Chairman Kim Jong Il warmly welcomed the high-level military delegation from China and conveyed his personal regards to President Hu Jintao, other senior Party officials and the fraternal Chinese army and people. Noting that the armies of the two countries had played a leading role in developing the friendship between the DPRK and China, he was convinced that the sense of revolutionary obligation and the class principle of the armies and peoples of the two countries will remain unchanged however the situation changes. Li Jinai presented gifts to Chairman Kim Jong Il and General Kim Jong Un. The DPRK leader expressed thanks for this. He hosted a dinner in honour of the Chinese high-ranking officers.
