DPRK's Tourism Animated :: Weekly Blitz

The DPRK is now active in promoting tourism.

First of all, a number of tourist destinations were laid out in all parts of the country.

Projects for building up tourist attractions have been undertaken in Mts. Paektu, Kuwol and Jongbang as well as in Pyongyang, Kaesong and Wonsan areas, and they are now opened to public.

In recent years coastal areas of the East Sea of Korea blessed with places of scenic beauty and historical interest, and beautiful seashores are now under extensive development for tourism. Out of them tourism to Mt. Kumgang is most popular. Lots of applications for contract on tourism to Mt. Kumgang are submitted from home and abroad, and tourist study groups visit Korea to acquire tourist routes and timetable and are satisfied with it.

Next, the DPRK is making efforts to vitalize tourist industry, which is, according to the requirements of tourists, classified into cultural tourism, sports tourism, medical-treatment tourism and so on. In the past tourist industry in Korea constituted mostly visits to scenic spots, but now its services got diversified.

Cultural tourism offers tourists the mass gymnastics and artistic performance "Arirang" registered in the Guinness World Records, performances of the State Symphony Orchestra and circus, visits to sites of historic relics and the Korean Art Gallery, and sampling party of Korean dishes, so that they may be acquainted with the development of Korean culture and the arts, history and custom.

Sports tourism, including mountaineering to Mt. Paektu, Mt. Myohyang and other celebrated mountains, golf playing and cycling enables tourists to have both a sightseeing and physical training.

Medical-treatment tourism comprises balneotherapy in Onchon area, South Phyongan Province, pelotherapy on Lake Sijung in Kangwon Province and treatment with noted Kangso Mineral Water, which are becoming immensely popular with tourists.

What is in the most public favour nowadays is tourism to Mt. Chilbo. The tourism to it became more convenient this year with the establishment of rail transport system.

Tourist services in Korea get upgraded with each passing day.

Available are guides in foreign languages such as English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German, Spanish and French and modern means of transport. Tourists to Korea express their satisfaction at their service.

Majon Hotel, Hyangsan Hotel and other service facilities were renovated for better accommodation.

Korea will do its utmost to further develop tourism.
