We are greatly shocked at the demise of the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Comrade Kim Jong Il. It is important to mention here that, under the dynamic leadership of Kim Jong Il, existing friendly relations between Dhaka and Pyongyang got further strengthened and it is our sincerest hope that the trend of such cordiality and mutual understanding between the two nations shall continue to flourish under General Kim Jong Un's leadership. At the death of Kim Jong Il, Bangladeshi President, Prime Minister and prominent leaders have already extended condolence messages. Comrade Kim Jong Il was the supreme leader of DPR Korea. Official biographers say that his birth at Baekdu Mountain was foretold by a swallow, and heralded by the appearance of a double rainbow over the mountain and a new star in the heavens. For his entire life, Kim Jong Il dedicated for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He has been able to uphold the dignity of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and its people in the entire world. In his life of a peerless patriot, Kim Jong Il was able to establish excellent relations with large number of countries in the world, where obviously Bangladesh stands amongst the best friends of Democratic People's Republic of Korea, alongside countries like China and Russia. Following the demise of Kim Jong Il, condolence messages were sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the National People's Congress Standing Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission - called Kim a great leader of the DPRK people and a close friend of the Chinese people. The message said Kim had dedicated the whole of his life and rendered immortal service to the DPRK's socialist revolution and construction. It noted that the late DPRK leader had carried on and further developed the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK. China believed that the DPRK will remain united under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and Kim Jong-un, Kim's son, and continuously advance toward the goal of building a strong and prosperous socialist nation and achieving sustained peace on the Korean Peninsula. We, the people of Bangladesh, certainly join the friendly people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the mourning the death of Kim Jong Il and sincerely hope, the path of progress and prosperity continued by the great leader shall be pressed forward by General Kim Jong Un.
