Ruling party MP assaults TV reporters in Bangladesh

Ruling party MP [Member of Parliament] and owner of satellite based private TV channel, MOHONA, Kamal Ahmed Mojumder and his criminal gang has severely beaten female reporter with RTV named Aparna Singha and her colleague Usman Ghani and broke arm of Aparna while Usman beared serious head injuries. Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, a notorious god-father belonging to the ruling party is master of numerous crimes for decades.

The incident took place at the premises of a local education institution named Monipur High School and College at the constituency of Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, when correspondent of RTV Aparna Singha went to make a report on alleged irregularities and misappropriation of fund by the ruling party lawmaker. It was alleged that, Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was collecting huge amount of money from the students of the institution in excuse of "development fees". Parents of the students, victimized by such massive irregularities of the ruling party MP said, the school authorities were extracting five times more fees than set by the government, which they said, were initiated by the ruling party MP. As Aparna Singha began interviewing school teachers and staffs as well as parents and guardians of the students, notorious god-father and ruling party lawmaker Kamal Ahmed Mojumder rushed to the scene with bunch of musclemen and started beating the journalists of the private television channel.

The attackers broke arm of Aparna Singha and severely injured other members of the TV report unit, including another reporter named Usman Ghani.

Following this incident, Kamal Ahmed Mojumder assigned reporters at his own TV channel to start false propaganda against the reporters of RTV stating, they were trying to extort money from the school authorities failing which, the RTV reporters went on "false reporting" on the educational institution. Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, denying the fact of assaulting the reporters said, "They were trying to take my photos, which I resisted. I did not beat them. I just pushed their camera away".

However parents and guardian told the reporters that Kamal Ahmed Majumdar was elected as the head of the prestigious school's governing body after the present Awami League government took office three years ago, and has been compelling the parents and guardians in paying exorbitant amount of "admission fees", violating the government set rules.

Last year, in another prestigious education institution in the city, pro-government teacher was accused of sexual assault and rape, which resulted in severe unrest for weeks. Porimol Joydhor, a teacher with Viqarunnisa Noon School and College was arrested on specific allegation of raping a number of girl students of the decade old education institution. It was already reported in Weekly Blitz that, some influential quarters within the ruling party are now actively trying to salvage the rapist Porimol Joydhor and even release him on bail.
