Since Bangladesh Awami League formed government in 2009 [January], a controversial man named Mohammad A Arafat has been cashing significant amount of money by introducing himself to be the friend of Bangladeshi Prime Minister's only son Sajib Wajed Joy. He also runs an organization named 'Suchinta Foundation', which he claims to be the think-tank of the ruling party. According to a local Bangla daily newspaper, Mohammad A Arafat came into media controversy, when he married an elder actor few years back. Since then, this man has been continuing to use his wife's social status in creating a base for him. On a regular basis, people of various walks of life as well as city elites are regularly invited at his residence and the couple extends all possible "hospitality" to those people with the goal of cashing such relations. Due to influence of his wife in the media as well as connection of his wife's family with the ruling party, Mohammad A Arafat has been able to turn into a multi-millionaire just within the span of three years, as he has been lobbying in favor of various business individuals as well as business enterprises. Moreover, he also is reportedly involved in illegal Voice Over Internet Protocol [VOIP] business as well as VOIP business by keeping the Call Details Recorders at Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited switched off on a regular basis, thus deceiving the country from significant amount of revenue every day.

Seeking anonymity a source inside an intelligence agency told Weekly Blitz that for some months they have been keeping vigilant eyes on a number of people, who are suspected to be abusing the name of the ruling party and taking undue benefits from various individuals. Mohammad A Arafat is one of those suspected people, the source said.

The source said, Mohammad A Arafat misuses names of various influential people, including the son of the Prime Minister. "This man is a great abuser of big names and he is continuing such illegal activities for months now", the source added.

Another source said, while Mohammad A Arafat is continuing to grab huge presence in various private television channels as well as state owned Bangladesh Television, he played mysterious role in giving provocations to the management of a private television channel in stopping a very popular talk show which was anchored by a prominent political leader. The source said, Mohammad A Arafat told the management of that television channel that if the program was "not stopped immediately", it would invite dire consequences for the management of the channel from the government and the ruling party.

Mohammad A Arafat came into limelight of media's criticism now when he sent press release to various newspapers in Dhaka inviting people to attend a seminar. In the press release, Mohammad A Arafat introduced himself as the friend of Sajib Wajed Joy. One of the recipients of this press release immediately brought the matter to the attention of Prime Minister's office and it was later disclosed that Mohammad A Arafat was misusing the name of the Prime Minister's son as his friend, with an ulterior motive of exhibiting himself to the people as someone 'influential'.

The editor of that newspaper immediately also contacted the ministry of home affairs and brought this matter to their attention. The ministry officials were greatly surprised and few of them were visibly annoyed at such illegal activities of Mohammad A Arafat.
