Golden kids of ruling party in action
by Srabanti Majumder http://www.weeklyblitz.net/229/golden-kids-of-ruling-party-in-action
Since the ruling Bangladesh Awami League took power following the general election of December 29, 2008, 'cubs' of its students and youth wings, who were earlier termed by the party chief and present Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina as 'Golden Kids' are seen in continuous notoriety thus already turning all the educational institutions in the country into extreme volatility. According to newspaper reports, in past 86 days, 4 students were killed only by the 'cubs' of the student wing of Bangladesh Awami League while couple of dozens were made physically disable due to severe torture. The latest episode of the 'jubilation of victory' by the 'golden kids' of the ruling government were witnessed at Dhaka Medical College on the last day of March. According to reports, Dhaka Medical College was on closed for an indefinite period over factional clashes of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League's associate body of students, in which one was killed and 25 were injured. Abul Kalam Asad Rajib, the general secretary of the college unit Chhatra League [Students Wing], which has served out its tenure, died in Dhaka Combined Military Hospital in the evening after being shifted there from Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Fourteen of the injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Other students injured were given first-aid treatment. The college academic council at an emergency meeting in the morning closed the college for an indefinite period to fend off further clashes and deterioration in campus law and order. The clashes began after midnight past Monday at Fazle Rabbi Hostel over stranglehold on the campus. Hostel residents and members on the staff said supporters of Rajib and former Chhatra League leader Bidyut Barua clashed over stranglehold on the campus. Hostel sources said the general students had for long resented Rajib's extorting money from them and the early Tuesday clash began with such an extortion attempt. They said Chhatra League leaders, led by Rajib, immediately after the Awami League had assumed office in January, began extorting money from them, enjoying extra facilities and having meals without payment. Police raided Room F-1 of Fazle Rabbi Hostel after the clash and seized 25 bottles of Phensidyl [codeine] syrup, several bottles of liquor, a huge quantity of cannabis, ten wallets, a vanity bag, pornographic books and CDs. Student's wing leader of the ruling party, Rajib was earlier arrested in October 2008 and had been behind bars for two months on charge of being involved in a robbery in Rajshahi district. Meanwhile, in another incident, the female cubs or the female golden kids of the students wing of the ruling party, in a residential hall of Dhaka University also exhibited their 'zeal' in committing terror to prove to their leader and the honorable Prime Minister that, they too are no less 'active' than those golden boy kids. Rival groups of female activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League clashed at Shamsunnahar Hall of Dhaka University early hours of March 31, leaving four injured. Hall sources said the clash ensued when the immediate-past organizing secretary of the hall unit BCL Sonika Sharmin Swarna boarded nine girls in room no 102, known as ganaroom [an eight-bedded room where 16 students reside]. Knowing it, another group, led by Nupur Khanam Duli, challenged the girls after March 30 midnight and asked them to show documents of their seat allocation and the girls told her to contact Swarna as she had permitted them to stay in the room. When Duli was talking with the girls, Swarna along with her fellows rushed into the room and was locked in an altercation with Duli. At one stage, Swarna attacked Duli. Supporters of Duli retaliated with hockey sticks and cricket stamps kept in the room by Swarna's supporters. Four were injured in the clash. Since installation of the newly elected government in Dhaka, educational institutions and university campuses are already transformed into mere battle field due to aggressive attitude and massive terror by the activists and leaders of the student wings of the party. Meanwhile, according to another report in Dhaka press, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, state minister for local government ministry, whose name came several times in the media as one of the suspicious figures related to BDR Massacre, suddenly turned 'sick' and was admitted to Labaid Cardiac Clinic. He will be flown to Singapore for 'treatment' on April 1. The mysterious ailment of Nanak gives birth to several rumors. It is even rumored that he has chosen the 'safe exit route' to abroad with the excuse of cardiac complication, anticipating his name to be already appeared in the list of collaborators of the BDR massacre. receive the latest by email: subscribe to weekly blitz's free mailing list Comment on this item |
