Related Topics A Bizarre Cabinet in Bangladesh
by Umme Mohsina Lotus http://www.weeklyblitz.net/246/a-bizarre-cabinet-in-bangladesh
No doubt that under the leadership of present prime minister Sheikh Hasina, people of Bangladesh are watching the most amazing cabinet in its history. Since the formation of this cabinet, almost its every member continuously making various comments without any sense of responsibility. It is said that Sheikh Hasina preferred personalities of clean image to form this cabinet. It may happen that there is no charge on corruption against any of them. But various suspicious, illogical and irrelevant comments made by some of them raised questions about their qualifications. Let me mention some recent and previous comments made by our honourable ministers and other political figures of Bangladesh. First of all, I want to tell something about a very recent comment made by Dr. Abdur Razzaq, minister for Food and Disaster Management .Recenly Dr Razzaq entitled army chief General Moeen U Ahmed as the 'Abraham Lincoln' of Bangladesh. the minister was addressing as the chief guest in a function arranged by Bangladesh army. There he also called Mr Moeen a 'Great Man' . Dr Razzaq also commented , " Under the leadership of this 'Great Man' Bangladesh army has presented the nation a rare and fair election." These comments are very suspicious. I like to mention here that ,right after the tragic incident of Bangladesh Rifles, former president H M Ershad also said in the parliament that "Awami League is here in ruling position only for the 'role of Bangladesh army'. " Now, the question is , why they often thanked army for the result of election ? Army placed Awami League in this position ? Not we , the people of Bangladesh ? Foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni made us laugh while she was speaking to the media about the Premier's recent visit in Saudi Arabia. She commented that Sheikh Hasina is the only PM of Bangladesh who was allowed to visit the Saudi King within last 7 years ! She also said that Saudi King addressed Sheikh Hasina as his 'Younger Sister' ! We know, only four years ago, in 2005, ex-PM Khaleda Zia also paid a visit to Saudi King. And, addressing any muslim as a 'Brother' or a 'Sister' is a very common culture in an Islamic state. It has not so importance to be quotable . It has been also learnt that, Dr Dipu Moni has no idea about 'Buffer State' though she is our Foreign minister. State Minister for Home affairs Mr. Tanjim Ahmed Sohel gave a sudden threatening to the people of Bangladesh saying ' If anyone tries to start a campaign for power crisis , water crisis or any such issue, he/she would be taught a good lesson!'. His arrogant comments horrified us! In a function held on last April 27 in the capital Finance and planning minister Abul- Mal-Abdul Muhit said 'I always try to be neutral , but for the influence of surroundings I often fail to be that.' Finance minster has proven himself as a biased figure by his above remarks. Commerce Mininster Lt Colonel (Rtd) Faruk Khan has suddenly disappeared from the media. But before dis-appearing, he made many controversial comments about the massacre inside the BDR Headquarter. Every where he used to talk over that issue with or without any proper reason. He used to tell media that there is external link behind this massacre .. He also told that millitants have penetreted inside the army. His irresponsible remarks destroyed the clean image of bangladesh army to the external world and destabilized our sovereignty as well. And still no external link has been found behind this tragic incident. Possibly, Awami League General secretary Abdul Jalil made the most interesting comment in April 2009. He accused that a number of ministers in present cabinet were the 'paid agents of an intelligence agency' during the tenure of the Caretaker government. In this regard Mr Jalil mentioned the names of Syed Ashraful Islam ( party spokesman and acting general secretary of Awami League), party presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed and Suranjit Sen Gupta -as the agents of that intellingence wing. People of Bangladesh know well that leaders of Awami League are very fond of bombast. In this regard I want to remind our readers that before 1/11, one influential leader of Awami League commented that his party will stop power supply , water supply and even 'oxygen supply' to the president's house. He made this surprising comment while describing his party's next movement procedure against the then government. We, the Bangladeshis were very eager to see how he would stop 'Oxygen Supply', but later this leader was sent to jail on the charge of huge corruption during the interim government . At that time our present prime minister Sheikh Hasina often used to say many abusive words to the then president Dr Iajuddin Ahmed. She even used to utter president's name in a very abusive and mockerick way saying as "Khaleda's Yes Uddin". The nation never expected such an abusive comment from the daughter of late president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who has beem always considered as the 'Greatest Bangali of all times' by Awami League. It is learnt that, a few days ago prime minister Sheikh Hasina advised her ministers not to take part in "TALK SHOW" with TV media. What might be the reason behind such prohibition ? Is our prime minister embarressed for the role of the members of her cabinet ? But, we shall not accuse our ministers only. We should not do that , too. Because, we know it clearly that our ministers are just following our prime minster, no doubt ! At last, I would like to mention a recent irresponsible comment made by our ex- Premier and present leader of the opposition in parliament Begum Khaleda Zia. While delivering a speech in a public meeting on last May 2 in the capital, she firmly asserted that 'There is no militant in Bangladesh now. We caught and punished all of them.' Our question is ' Does Mrs Zia really live in Bangladesh ?' Because, anyone lives in Bangladesh can't make such an irresponsible comment like a careless fool.
