International Human Rights Day - 2009 observed in Bangladesh with the collaboration of Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) and Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) at Narayanganj district [near Dhaka] on December 10, 2009. A seminar was organised by Global Human Rights Defence [GHRD] and Bangladesh Minority Watch [BDMW] at West Deobogh, under Narayanganj district. More than two hundred participants attended the function. More than 10 victims of violation from various districts narrated their sorrows and agonies of torture, forceful conversion and land grabbing in the seminar. Victims demanded immediate punishment of the perpetrators responsible for crime against humanity. The seminar was presided by internationally acclaimed minority rights leader Advocate Rabindra Ghosh. Weekly Blitz editor Salauddin Shoaib Choudhury was the Chief Guest in this seminar. Choudhury loudly took up various issues of persecution of Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh as well appreciated the continuous efforts of GHRD and BDMW in protecting their rights. He appreciated the efforts made by the GHRD for the protection of rights of the people belonging to religious, indigenous, underprivileged and Dalit community of Bangladesh. Shoaib Choudhury in his speech expressed deep concern about recent trend of conversion from minority community. He brought up the conversion of minority boy named Debashis Dey and girls named Silvia [Mery], Tulshi Rani Das, Oishi Rani Mondal, Shewli Rani Sarkar and Rupa Mondal. He asked the Government of Bangladesh to take immediate initiative in stopping such trend and also punish those perpetrators responsible for forceful conversion in the name of Islam. Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, President of BDMW and Observer of GHRD spoke on this occasion emphasising the need to educate the common principle of Human rights to draw up Manifesto for Human Rights. He also drew the attention of the Government of Bangladesh in strictly following/adhering to principles of protocol singed by it. On this occasion leaders of different organisations from different parts of the country participated the seminar and rally. The speakers were Jharna Rani Das, Women and Children Affairs Secretary of GHRD, Harun-ar-Rashid, Madhab Chandra Das, Shankar Chandra Das, Gobinda Ghosh, Masuda Akhtar, Monoranjan Mona, Sudhir Barman, Rabindra Gupta and Manik Chandra.
