In a number of incidents, holy deities of Hindu goddess Saraswati were demolished in Bogra and Brahmanbaria districts in Bangladesh. At Brahmanbaria districts Nabinagar village, four deities of goddess Saraswati were destroyed by culprits during deep hours of the night of January 13, 2010. Officer-in-charge of Nabinagar police station, Deepak Kumar Saha endorsed the incident and said investigation into the matter is continuing. In another incident seven deities of Saraswati were demolished by culprits at Pal Para village under Bogra district on January 18, 2010. Perpetrators stole the deities and threw after demolition in a near by jungle. No legal actions are yet taken against the culprits, though several days have already passed since the incidents. In the Vedic system Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music and the arts. Saraswatī has been identified with the Vedic Saraswati River. She is considered as consort of Brahma. She is the daughter of Hindu goddess Durga and is seen alongside her during Durga Puja celebrations along with her sister Lakshmi and her brothers Ganesh and Karthikeya. Saraswati's children are the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. Attack on Hindus as well repeated attack on Hindu temples and deities are continuing for past several months, despite the fact that ruling Awami League claims to be following secularist ideology and pledged bound to ensure rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh. Forceful abduction and conversion of Hindu girls reached to an alarming level in recent months.
