The efforts to develop the titanium industry are making brisk headway in the DPRK.

An abundance of titanium exists in strata. But it was produced and used a little for its complicated metallurgy and regarded as a rare metal in the past. As the scope of its use continues to expand, it has become one of the minerals whose demand is rapidly growing.

An ore-dressing plant was newly set up in the titanium mine in Kangso District, Nampho City, in autumn last year.

The builders in charge of the development of the mine led by the Korea Puhung General Trading Corporation have made strenuous efforts to establish the modern titanium industry. As a result, they finely built an ore-dressing plant with an annual production capacity of tens of thousands of tons in less than a year.

A large quantity of ore is processed by putting advanced production facilities in full operation in the mine.

This is only the beginning of a gigantic project to build the large-scale titanium industry based on a big deposit of titanic ore in this area.

The developers plan to build a metallurgical base for producing titanium and several factories for using its products while continuing to increase the production capacity of the mine.

"The prospects are bright. Good results will surely turn out in the near future," said the general director of the corporation.

The work of building a residential district is also going ahead in parallel with the mine development.
