Internationally-controversial documentary film made its Bangladesh debut on the weekend [Friday, January 22, 2010] at Dhaka University. The two-hour film titled 'Home' highlights the perils of climate change and its effects on Bangladesh and the rest of the world. The presentation organised by the U. S. Bangladesh Foundation [USBF] and Alliance Francaise de Dhaka was screened in the presence of its maker, renowned French photographer Yann Artus-Bertrand, who was given a standing ovation by the appreciative audience. The documentary chronicles the present day condition of the Earth, its climate and how we as the dominant species have the responsibility to stop the rot and care for its future. Jacques Bounin, Chargé-de-mission, Cultural Affairs, of the French embassy in Dhaka, and a number of special guests including Muhammad Musa [isaster specialist, former Director-General, Disaster Management Bureau, and Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh] Sir Frank Peters [ritish humanitarian and royal Ambassador of Goodwill]and Mihir Kanti Majumder [ecretary, Ministry of Environment & Forest]spoke. Muhammad Musa was applauded when he said: "Bangladesh and all affected countries have the legal right – and should take – compensation from the G8 and other developed countries under a resolution to be adopted by the UNO." Sir Frank described the documentary as a "must-to-see" by everyone living in Bangladesh. "Home is a well-researched, highly informative, superbly-photographed cinematic experience that has a poignant message for the entire world, but especially those who live in Bangladesh. "Irrespective of our political affiliations or religious beliefs, the problems relating to the environment is universal and transcends all man-made political borders and putting all political differences to the side, we must work in harmony as one universal family to resolve the problems," he said. Zahurul Haque, CEO of USBF, said the chairman of BRAC, Sir Fazle Hazan Abed, is translating the film script into Bangla. "This way it will appeal to, and will allow the film to be seen by, a wider audience," he said. "Although Home cost a small fortune to make, it is available as a free download from the Internet and it's a film that everyone should see," he added.
