Police at Southern district of Rajshahi held Bureau Chief of vernacular daily Khabar Patra, Mohammed Humayun Kabir from Rajshahi University's Public Relations section on Thursday for allegedly 'cursing' Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station in Rajshahi told reporters that, journalist Mohammed Humayun Kabir was picked up by him from the university campus, as Rajshahi University's PR department director Khandakar Habibur Rahman Mukul and PR section assistant Shafiqul Islam called police when journalist Mohammed Humayun Kabir was cursing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while he was reading the news about execution of the death penalty of five army officers, who were hanged at the early hours of Thursday for killing the founding father of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. While the Bureau Chief of the vernacular daily was cursing the Prime Minister, officials at the university PR section opposed to it. They immediately called the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Muhammed Nurullah, who finally decided to handover Muhammed Humayun Kabir to police for cursing the Bangladeshi Prime Minister. Subsequently, Rajshahi University proctor Mohammed Zakaria intervened and arranged for handing Humayun Kabir over to Motihar Police Station. While talking to newsmen, Mohammed Zakaria said, "Humayun was detained and handed over to the police as he was allegedly making indecent comments about the PM."
