When many people of the world worship Jesus Christ, Sakyamuni or certain personages,

Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, adores the masses of the people.

His adoration of the people finds expression in valuing the people most in the world.

The political idea of "The people are my God " is his motto. In recent years alone, he saw to it that the Okryu and Chongryu restaurants, the famous restaurants of the country, and the Taedongmun Cinema which are frequented by people and other cultural and welfare facilities in Pyongyang were refurbished as smartly as palaces.

Kim Jong Il thinks highly of the people's demand and interest. He always thinks and acts on the basis of the demand and interest of the people. He refuses to do things otherwise. Whenever he proposes a single line or policy, he makes it a rule to make it designed to reflect and meet the people's desire and demand. If the people want to see it, I must grow a flower even on the stone and pick a star from the sky. This is his absolute outlook on the people. The following shows how much he values the people's interest.

One day he visited the place where the Samsu Power Station—it was completed in 2007—was under construction in the northern part of the country. He inquired about the problem of dwelling houses for the residents in the area that would be submerged. Disappointed at the answer that no necessary measures were taken because the project was still under construction, he gave instructions to build the dwelling houses at once, saying that the residents should not be put to inconvenience even for a moment however urgent the project was. Consequently there appeared over 150 new villages of more than 5000 houses built in a short span of time.

His adoration of the people is expressed by his believing in the people absolutely and managing all affairs by relying on them.

His worship of the people just means his admiration of and confidence in the people's inexhaustible power and wisdom. In recent years, the country was in economic difficulties. The people, however, managed to do such projects as the large-scale land realignment and the construction of gravitational waterways and many power stations in many parts of the country. This is attributable to his decision based on his absolute confidence in the people's power. He regards the people as the teacher of everything and the Almighty. To him it is the people who know the reality best and who know how to overcome difficulties. It is the first habit with him to go among the people and it is his inherent way of leadership to solve all problems by considering their simple opinions.

His worship of the people is also to be seen in his devotion to them.

He always follows the slogan "We serve the people!" He finds the greatest joy in the people's happiness. For the people's happiness he never hesitates to go on his personal guidance trips even in the midsummer heat or the midwinter cold. According to the relevant data, he gave on-the-spot guidance to over 30 units in July and August 2008. His devotion to the people was ceaseless even during his visits to foreign countries. During a visit to the Russian Federation in 2001, he visited a stock farm. Though the midsummer heat made him run with sweat, he looked around the farm for a long time. Later a Russian official who accompanied him said: " Kim Jong Il's visit to the stock farm was beyond that of experts. I have long been engaged in foreign affairs, but I've never seen, or heard the story of, the head of state acquainting himself with the details of an ordinary stock farm for such a long time. I believe the Korean leader did it from his love for the people. I clearly realize why the Korean people hold him in respect as their own father and believe in and follow him as their God."
