Weekly Blitz Jamuna Future Park [inset photo: Nurul Islam Babul, Chairman, Jamuna Group] Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha [RAJUK] or the Capital Development Authorities started demolishing several floors of the under construction mega-mall in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, named Jamuna Future Park. The mall is owned by Jamuna Group, one of the largest business conglomerates in the country. Heavy contingent of law enforcing agencies were deployed within the entire area from early morning of Thursday [February 4, 2010] stopping employees, workers and officials of Jamuna Group from entering the premises. RAJUK started demolition at around 11:15 am in the morning, after several hours' altercations with the employees of Jamuna Group. Metropolitan magistrate Rokonuddowla was present on the spot to monitor the demolition. RAJUK claimed that, Jamuna Group has built structures beyond the approved six storey of the under-construction largest shopping mall of the country. Jamuna Future Park is being constructed over 33 acres of land in Dhaka's Bashundhara area investing a few hundred million dollars. Jamuna claims their under-construction shopping mall to be the largest in Asia. According to wikipedia, Jamuna Future Park will be one of the biggest shopping malls in the world. The construction was started in 2002. However, due to its slow development of construction, the exterior was completed in 2008. It has been planned by the management that the shopping mall will be opened for all by the end of 2010. This mall could be considered as an international-standard mall with global fashion such as Nike, Armani, one of the largest Versache stores in the world and retail marques as well as local brands. It will have the biggest hypermarket in Bangladesh as well. The complex is constructed on 33 acres of land surrounded by future residential areas and posh areas of Dhaka city like Gulshan and Baridhara [diplomatic zones], Banani, Bashundhara, Nikunja and Uttara. The shopping complex has a total of nine floors. The lower basement floor is reserved for car parking. The middle basement is reserved for car parking and a portion for supermarket/hypermarket. Level 1 is the base floor for all atria, facilities for live entertainment, musical and fashion shows, etc. From the ground floor to the fifth floor, there are several categories of local and international brand shops, non-branded shops, bank space, online booths and food shops. The fifth floor has space for an indoor children's theme park, a gymnasium and a health club, two separate swimming pools for ladies and men, spacious exhibition halls, banquet halls, international standard cineplex with 7 individual hall rooms, 22 lane bowling alleys with karaoke facilities, and a musical and entertainment floor.
