Art Performance Given by University Students Enjoyed

Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, enjoyed a performance given by student art groups of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, Kim Chol Ju University of Education, Pyongyang University of Medicine, Pyongyang University of Construction and Building-Materials Industry, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, Pyongyang University of Agriculture, Pyongyang Jang Chol Gu University of Commerce.

Put on the stage were poem-story telling and chorus "O Korea, I Will Add Glory to Thee," male solo "The Country I Am Defending" and poem and chorus "Push Back the Frontiers of Science" and other colourful numbers of diverse genres.

The performance proudly representing the rosy future of Songun Korea gave deep impression to the audience.

Kim Jong Il waved back to the enthusiastically cheering performers, congratulating them on their successful performance.

Expressing great satisfaction over the fact that the students staged a splendid performance replete with the revolutionary soldier spirit with art pieces of high cognitive and educational value truthfully reflecting their life by actively learning from the soldier culture created in the Songun era, he spoke highly of their successful performance and extended thanks to them on behalf of the WPK Central Committee.

The WPK is satisfied with the fact that the universities have trained large numbers of competent native cadres and technical personnel who are playing pivotal roles in the revolution and construction and thus rendered positive services to effecting the cause of building a great, prosperous and powerful nation, he said, highly praising the achievements they have made in the past.

He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for the education and upbringing at the universities, noting that it is a fundamental issue related to the destiny of the Korean revolution in the future to fully prepare the rising generation who will shoulder the future of Korea into able talents and pillars of the country equipped with knowledge, good moral character and good health.
