Notorious Islamist militancy group Hizbut Towhid [HuT] has finally started flexing muscle in Bangladesh. It activities became exposed when the armed members of this terror outfit attacked activists and members of ruling Bangladesh Awami League on February 27, 2010 and seriously injured a number of leaders of the ruling party and its youth and student front. According to police, at least 13 members of the ruling party were serious injured during this attack. Hizbut Towhid men attacked the office of Bangladesh Awami League at Lohapotti office of the ruling party at Kushtia district. The attack was led by Kushtia district Hizbut Towhid chief Shafiqul Islam, while more than 40 members of this notorious group took part in the attack. A case has already been lodged with the local police station by a leader of the ruling party. Police has arrested Hizbut Towhid's district chief Shafiqul Islam, member Hassan, Siddiq Hossain, Hossain Ali, Anesa Begum and Ruhul Amin. Other members of the group are still absconding. On interrogation, members of HuT said, they were operating in the district for years under the directives of Selim Panni, who is the kingpin of this notorious Islamist militancy group. They said, main objective of Hizbut Towhid is to establish Shariah Rule in the world through Jihad. Members of the terror outfit said, presently they are using sword, hammer and other types of 'light weapons' for offensives on anti-Islamic groups, while their leader is taking necessary preparations for much 'stronger' offensives in near future.
