Reader comment on: No Bangladeshi can travel abroad during April 2010

Submitted by MB (Austria), Mar 31, 2010 20:30

No, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) has mandated that all contracting states should issue compliant machine readable passports from 1st April 2010 and that all non machine readable passports should expire by 1st April 2015 at the latest.
I also read that a Parliamentary Committee of GoB had recently asked the government to scrap the MRP project, for which it had already sanctioned more than 3.5 billion Taka to issue around 18 million MRPs in the next four years. Instead, it had directed the Government to introduce E-passports to save public money, saying that E-passports would be used worldwide after MRPs would become invalid in 2014!
