Robert Burns International Airport, Prestwick, ScotlandReader comment on: The Politics of Name Change Game Submitted by Geoff Crolley from UK (United Kingdom), Apr 23, 2010 20:41 The area in which I live depends on tourism and being in "Burns Corridor" where Scotland's national poet was born and bred, you would expect us to promote the fact. Quite the opposite, we call the Ayrshire airport "Glasgow Prestwick" because, as you say, "Normally, an international airport is named after the city where it is located." but there is already an airport near Glasgow and this confuses many passengers. There is a campaign which wishes to rename the airport "THE ROBERT BURNS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Prestwick" because we agree with: "The State shall adopt measures to conserve the cultural traditions and heritage of the people, and so to foster and improve the national language, literature and the arts that all sections of the people are afforded the opportunity to contribute towards and to participate in the enrichment of the national culture."
