Foreign born widow's rights to her husband's inheritance

Submitted by Ritva Imam from Finland (Finland), Jan 11, 2010 21:04

Dear Sir /Madam,

The family of my husband ,Abdullah Wares Imam, asked him to come and help them.So he did and organized a block of flats to be built on his late father's land by Building Technology & Ideas LTD .When the flats were built the company gave my husband three deeds for three flats.I was present there but had to leave the country to care for my business. After that the family started quarrelling and next I was given information that my husband was dead ( suicide they said) at 69 Swamibagh Road 1100 Dhaka.I wanted all his personal items to be sent to me ;the British Passport( he had a Bangladesh passport as well but not with him at that time),his Barclays bank card, the three deeds of the three flats which he owned and other personal belongings.I never received anything. He had rented two flats and the money was in his drawer. Some reliable person phoned me and said that his brother, now the eldest in the family ,had stolen everything from his apartment. His name is Abdullah Masud Imam of 190/1,Malibagh Bazar Road,Nahar Manjil,Dhaka 1217,flat 8c,7th floor.I have sent the family my husband's last will that all his properties should be handed over to me.The will was done by Nicholla Christie & Crocker of 41 Station Road North Harrow Middlesex HA2 7SX England and it is valid all over the world. The building company's address is Celebration Road No113/A,Plot 35 Gulshan 2. Their e-mail is btl@citecho.net The last news i have received from this reliable person is that the brother and the three sisters are taking all my husband,s property and they are not going to allow me and my two daughters to have a sigle taka.I am afraid to come to Bangladesh as they might kill me as it has happened many times in the past.

I have nobody to help me in this dilemma .But if you could even publish this wrong doing in the newspaper,it might help the matters to go to right direction after getting publicity.

I had to execute the estate hare in Finland stricktly according to the law. There is ni escape from it.Is there any law in Bangladesh to protect the widow, especially the foreign born one, that the justice would prevail.I have also sent a copy of my marriage certificate and the passport (no visa required) It seems that my husband's family seems to be able to do whatever they want.

Thanking you for enabling me to express my worries and if you can do something it would be wonderful ,not only to me but everybody in my position.
