Pakistan needs empathy not lecturesReader comment on: U.S. policy toward Pakistan and Afghanistan under the Obama administration Submitted by Ratee from Canada (Canada), Jan 25, 2010 12:53 The whole article talks about that everything is wrong with Pakistan. Well let me ask you to ponder about some of the points given below and also conisder that the cost of the so-called war on terror is costing Pakistan around $ 8 billion annually and as USA trained and left the mujhedin and Al-Qaida opereatives in the region since 1979 they are responsible for most of Pakistan's present problems that have to do with their war on terror. Is USA not going to pay at least some of these costs for the mistakes it has committed in this area in the past? What has USA done in Afghanistan since 1979?CIA brought in AL-Qaida from Arab countries implanted them in Afghanistan in 1979 and established the muhjaden who had already played havoc with the region when USA came back in 2001. After USSR defeat USA left the area from 1989 to 2001? Was that responsible? In 2003 they let Al-Qaida members escape to Pakistan when they took their forces to Iraq was that also Pakistan's fault?. USA is totally responsible for the problems in this region because of these major mistakes. Do you westerners know that not one fundamentalist won a seat in 2008 elections even in the Tribal area (The most conservative and poorest area of Pakistan) they were all wiped out because the so-called pro-western General Musharraf sided with the fundamentalist parties and rigged the elections in 2002 and helped rightist parties to win elections in some provinces in the 2002 elections. People are so disgusted with these rightist fundamentalists parties they have been completely routed through out Pakistan in the 2008 election even in the Tribal areas!!!!!!! If you study the history Pakistani electorate have always rejected these fundamentalist parties while USA paradoxically has always supported the wrong Governments! The dictators have always been supported by USA. While in this article you are saying that there is something wrong that why dictators come into power in Pakistan at the expense of the civilian governments. It was the USA that was involved in eliminating the secularist Bhutto in 1977 and helping fundamentalist Gen Zia to take over power and again it was Gen Musharraf that was supported by USA that have played havoc with the country. Now again Zardari's PPP came onto power by manipulation of the NRO extrajudicial laws through help of USA and UK through their crony Musharraf that has caused the present upheavel of these laws being rejected by the supreme court. Please no more interference by USA and Pakistan is strong enough to survive and would not need any more lectures from the western press!!!
