Another thought provoking piece from Dr. ElhadjReader comment on: Arab democracy: A sheer fantasy Submitted by Madeline Brooks from USA (United States), Feb 11, 2010 00:35 Here are several questions that arose for me in reading your article: 1) Would a reinterpretation of Islamic scriptures help the process of democritization through developing critical thinking skills and increased respect for the autonomy of the individual? 2) Do you see the non-Arab Muslim world as playing an important part in the development of democratic processes and institutions in the Muslim world? 3) How would the benevolent dictatorship that you advocate be assured of its benevolence? 4) What do you suggest the West do in the meantime - or perhaps forever, as you suggest - to insulate itself against Muslim fundamentalism and terrorism? (Perhaps you've been planning this anyway for future articles.) Thanks again for your good work. Note: Comments are screened, and in some cases edited, before posting.
