Bangladesh Police arrests Ansar Al Islam top dog

Bangladesh Police has arrested Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib, head of the ‘Online Dawah’ section of notorious jihadist outfit Ansar Al Islam (AAI).

According to information, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) sources, Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib was arrested from Dhaka city’s Uttara (East) area on November 14, 2021.

Asaduzzaman, Head of the Media wing of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said, Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib was attracted to militancy in 2016 through online propaganda outlets of Ansar Al Islam.

He said, CTTC has already found large volume of jihadist contents on the mobile phone and digital devices of the arrested Ansar Al Islam’s propaganda top dog.

The CTTC head said, back in 2016, on completion of his higher secondary exams, Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib got admitted at Oxford International College in Dhaka, when he became attracted to militancy. Initially Hasibur joined two Al Qaeda propagandists named Jamil Hassan and Jamshed Hussein on Facebook. Both the Facebook IDs were used for spreading propaganda contents of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

In 2019, Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib became totally inclined towards radical Islamic and jihadist ideologies of Al Qaeda and Ansar Al Islam and started writing in favor of jihad on social media. During that time, he used a pseudonym as ‘Azzam Al Ghalib’. He also opened a Telegram account in the same name and used both the platforms for spreading radical Islamic and jihadist ideologies.

Hasibur Rahman alias Ayman Al Ghalib also opened one more page named ‘Muahid Muslim’ on Facebook. This page was used for inviting youths in joining Ansar Al Islam and jihadist activities. Later, Facebook authorities had disabled the page on allegation of spreading religious extremism, religious hatred and jihadist propaganda.
