Thousands of Hefazat-e-Islam supporter madrassa teachers-students as well as members of several militancy outfits and Cyber Jihad units of Hefazat and other radical Islamic militancy groups have established disturbing dominance on social media networks. It may be mentioned here that being funded by Islamic forces, militant outfits Hefazat-e-Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami wanted to turn Bangladesh into a Taliban state like Afghanistan if they came to power, top Hefazat leaders have confessed to the police.

According to BLiTZ reports, Hefazat-e-Islam has formed its own IT Cell and Cyber Jihad Unit, while other militancy outfits such as Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB), Hizbut Tahrir, and Alsar Al Islam have also deployed their members in continuing “massive” activities on social media with the goal of promoting pro-Caliphate, jihadist, anti-Awami League and anti-India sentiment alongside countering each of the anti-militancy news items and opinion editorials. Accordingly, desperate members and activists of these radical Islamic groups have established absolute dominance on social media.

The reports said, while Hefazat-e-Islam and militancy group members are desperately running anti-government propaganda on social media, law enforcement agencies are reluctant in taking necessary action against these culprits.

Earlier a top detective official of Bangladesh Police told reporters, Hefazat leaders had formed an organization named ‘Rabetatul Waizin Bangladesh’ with radical Islamic clergies from across the country. This organization is used to control ‘Waz Mahfils’ in spreading militancy in the name of preaching Islam. Under the banner of Rabetatul Waizin Bangladesh, hate-speakers from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India also are regularly invited in participating provocative Islamic discussions mainly through a number of jihadist YouTube channels.

According to Bangladesh Police source, they currently are scrutinizing videos of ‘waz’ of a number of radical Islamic clergies in the country. It said, Members of Hefazat-e-Islam as well as other radical Islamic and militancy groups are running dozens of Islamist channels on YouTube, with the notorious agenda of spreading jihadist madness in Bangladesh and the region.
