Following the latest case of Hefazat-e-Islam leader Allama Mamunul Haque’s getting caught red-handed with the wife of someone else’s wife, the way Hefazat men are taking side with Mamunul and abusing the government and members of the media outlets in extreme rowdy languages and even trying to hide the matter stating it was “made up to defame an Islamic scholar”, secularist forces are getting an alarming signal of growing desperation of radical Islamic Hefazat-e-Islam, which according to credible sources is taking preparations of beginning massive movement throughout the country from mid-2023, eyeing on the general election. The sources further say, Hefazat-e-Islam has become ambitious of emerging as a political party and become a part of the next government, as it already has aligned with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, radical Islamic groups and forces, including militancy outfits such as Hizbut Tahrir.

Hefazat-e-Islam’s dangerous agenda

Hefazat-e-Islam has a militancy front named Manhaji (Showing Path), which has similar ideology as radical Islamic militancy groups such as Islamic State and Al Qaeda. It also maintains connections with Harkat-ul-Jihad (HuJI), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Neo JMB (a group of Aliya madrassa students and teachers) and Ahley Hadis of Dr Asadullah Ghalib. Mamunul Haque also heads another extremist front named Jubo Majlish (Youth Forum).

According to counterterrorism experts, a segment of Hefazat-e-Islam maintains connections with Pakistani spy agency Inter Service Intelligence (ISI), while Manhaji and Jubo Majlish are connected to Islamic State and Al Qaeda. These groups also maintain regular contacts with Hizbul Mujahedin and Kashmir-based jihadist groups, while are getting fund from Pakistan and Qatar in particular and several Afro-Arab donors.

Despite conflict of interest centering control over Hefazat-e-Islam, Mamunul Haque and Junaid Babunagari are reportedly taking preparations for launching Ayatollah Rohullah Khomeini’s “Islamic revolution” months before the 2023 general election in Bangladesh. It may be mentioned here that, Junaid Babunagari and Mamunul Haque are accused of murdering Allama Shah Shafi, the founder of Hefazat, and they have been making all-out efforts in cornering liberal voices within Hefazat, including sons of Allama Shafi.

Mamunul Haque’s illicit sexual life exposed

According to Blitz report, Mamunul Haque, a senior leader of radical-Islamic group Hefazat-e-Islam was caught by locals at a luxurious resort in Narayanganj district – near Dhaka city with a female, allegedly during illicit sexual acts.

Mamunul is also the Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, a political party promoting Caliphate rule.

Mamunul is particularly infamous as a hardline Islamist leader who frequent speaks against atheists, secularists, anti-Islamists and critics of Iran and Palestinian terrorists. He also is against secular newspapers and journalists.

Hefazat-e-Islami leader Mamunul Haque demands death penalty for committing blasphemy while is also promotes radical Islam and jihad.

The Hefazat leader has recently been making the headlines by his controversial remarks regarding sculptures. He is also accused of threatening the government in the past.

In November last year, Mamunul demanded an immediate halt to the installation of a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the capital’s Dholaipar.

Hefazat-e-Islam is once again in the spotlight following its involvement in the deadly violence during demonstrations protesting the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh and the mayhem its supporters resorted to across the country during a countrywide shutdown.

Mamunul’s false claim centering the woman

Immediately after being caught by locals, Allama Mamunul Haque claimed the woman to be his second wife. But it was later revealed that the woman actually is the wife of another Islamist leader named Allama Jafar Shahidul Islam.

According to a credible source, Mamunul Haque and his wife’s family are connected to Jamaat-e-Islami, while the entire family is under Jamaat’e heavy influence. The source further added that Mamunul Haque has been maintaining links with BNP leader Mahmudur Rahman and several influential leaders of the party, including Tarique Rahman.

Bangladesh’s leading private news channel Ekattor TV in a exclusive news item has leaked the telephonic conversation of Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque with his wife, immediately after his release from police custody following his arrest from the luxurious resort with a woman. Although Mamunul repeatedly claimed the woman to have been his second wife, according to the telephonic conversation, the woman is the wife of another Islamist leader named Jafar Shahidul Islam.

In the telephonic conversation, Mamumul is heard telling his wife, the woman is actually the wife of Jafar Shahidul Islam and he had to lie to the police and the mob to escape further harassment and legal actions.

Mamunul: Walaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullah. I will tell you the entire matter face to face. The woman who was with [me], is our brother Shahidul’s [Shahidul Islam] wife, got it? Situation there centering this was .. weren’t any [other] option of not telling that [claiming her as Mamunul’s second wife]. They … me there .. understood?

Contradictory statement by Mamunul

Jharna also said, she currently resides at Mohammedpur area in Dhaka.

Rise of Hefazat must be stopped

With the latest incident of Mamunul’s getting caught with an woman during illicit sex at Royal Resort and the way his followers had compelled the law enforcement agencies in releasing him clearly proves – this group of radical Islamists have already started disobeying the law of the land, and are gaining further strength in denouncing democracy and demanding establishment of sharia rule or Caliphate in Bangladesh. Audacious acts of this group centering the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s independence should not be tolerated. Everyone involved into such nefarious acts should face stern legal consequences.

We need to remember, as Hefazat plays with the religious sentiment of the people and as their followers already are defying law of the land, it is an urgent task for the policymakers in Bangladesh to take immediate steps in stopping these Islamist monsters from growing further. To achieve this goal, activities of Hefazat-e-Islam should be outlawed before it is too late.
