An Indian journalist who runs a dubious website from Assam claims, Velupillai Prabhakaran, kingpin of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is still alive and lives in a European country. The journalist also claims to be maintaining regular relations with Prabhakaran, LTTE and Myanmar-based anti-India Maoist insurgency groups. It may be mentioned here, the editor of the Assam-based dubious website has been actively involved in various activities against the Indian Army and he has also been coordinating activities of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and is known as one of the top comrades of fugitive terrorist Paresh Baruah.
Velupillai Prabhakaran, was a Sri Lankan Tamil guerilla and the founder and leader of LTTE, a militancy outfit that sought to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. The LTTE waged war in Sri Lanka for more than 25 years, to crease an independent state for the Sri Lankan Tamil populace.
Prabhakaran was the youngest of four children, born in Valvettithurai, on Sri Lanka’s Jaffna peninsula’s northern coast. Considered the heart of Tamil culture and literature in Sri Lanka, Jaffna was concentrated with growing Tamil nationalism, which called for autonomy for Tamils to protest the discrimination against them by the Sinhalese-dominated Sri Lanka government and Sinhalese civilians since Sri Lanka gained independence from Britain in 1948.
Founded in 1976, the LTTE came to prominence in 1983 after it ambushed a patrol of the Sri Lanka Army outside Jaffna, resulting in the deaths of 13 soldiers. This ambush, along with the subsequent pogrom that resulted in the deaths of thousands of Tamil civilians, is generally considered the start of the Sri Lankan Civil War. After years of fighting, including the intervention of the Indian Army (IPKF), the conflict was halted after international mediation in 2001. By then, the LTTE, which came to be known as the Tamil Tigers, controlled large swathes of land in the north and east of the country, running a de facto state with Prabhakaran as its leader. Peace talks eventually broke down, and the Sri Lanka Army launched a military campaign to defeat the LTTE in 2006.
Talking to the correspondent of BLiTZ, Dhruba Jyoti Deka, editor-in-chief of a dubious website named ‘Times of Assam’ said, despite the fact of Sri Lankan Army’s claim of Prabhakaran been killed on May 18, 2009, this dangerous man is still alive and living in Sweden along with his daughter and other members of the family. He said, Prabhakaran’s elder son Anthony was killed during operations of the Indian Army.
To justify his claim of Prabhakaran not been killed, Deka suggested to compare earlobe of Prabhakaran and the dead body, which Sri Lankan Army claimed to be of the LTTE kingpin.
Deka also claimed to have been in regular contact with Prabhakaran, his son Srinivashan (Pottu) and other members of the family until 2011. He said, Prabhkaran and family were using VoIP number with 3 digits while communicating with him.
He said, he is waiting for Indian government lift ban on LTTE, for publishing serialized reports exposing the mystery of Prabhakaran.
Dhruba Jyoti Deka also claimed to be regularly visiting Myanmar by crossing the Indo-Myanmar border and meeting Maoist insurgency groups. He is believed to be connected to Maoist groups as well as counterfeit Indian currency rackets run by Pakistani spy agency ISI. Deka is currently looking for substantial fund to launch a daily newspaper and a TV channel. He claimed, leaders of Maoist insurgency groups in Myanmar are trying to help him with the fund.
Although Dhruba Jyoti Deka is known as one of the harsh critics of Indian Army, it is believed that he has been working as a Maoist mule supplying sensitive information about India both to Maoists in Myanmar and Pakistani ISI.
Deka also claims to have visited Kashmir and met “key leaders” of Pakistan-sponsored jihadist group. On his return from Kashmir, Deka was detained and interrogated by the Indian intelligence agencies.
While Dhruba Jyoti Deka firmly claims LTTE kingpin Prabhakaran is still alive, some Tamil nationalist hardliners had also doubted Sri Lankan government’s version of the story and believe that he may still be alive having escaped the final battle zone in 2009.
Back in 2016, a leader of Tamil National Alliance said, he was willing to report Prabhakaran’s name to the OMP [Office of Missing Persons] set up by the government.
