Radical Shi’ite threat to the Arab world and beyond PART-1

NOTE: Evil plot of the Iranian regime and its rogue ambition of establishing Shi’ite dominance throughout the Middle East and beyond needs to be exposed, for the sake of global peace. This is the first installment of serialized articles. Following installments will be published every day.

A few days ago, the US State Department has designated a Bahrain-based Shi’ite militancy group named Saraya al-Mukhtar (SM) as a terrorist organization for receiving financial logistic assistance from the Iranian regime’s Islamic infamous Revolutionary Guards Corps. According to media reports, this group’s self-described goal is to “depose the Bahraini government” with the notorious agenda of “paving the way for Iran to exert greater influence in Bahrain – by setting a Shi’ite government in power. The US State Department says, this group has also plotted attacks against US personnel in Bahrain and has offered cash rewards for the assassination of Bahraini officials.

The decision from Washington comes much later than similar moves taken by other countries, including Bahrain, where the Parliament blacklisted this group back in 2018. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt have earlier designated SM on the same day as Bahrain a year earlier.

Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said “The decision [of the US State Department] is a significant positive step taken to confront the malicious actions and intentions of the terrorist organization supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and to combat its destabilizing activities in the region and dry up its sources of funding”.

Saraya al-Mukhtar, a group, whose top leadership remains unknown, is also referred to as the Bahraini Islamic Resistance. It was founded in 2013.

While unlike other Iran proxy groups such as Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah, Saraya al-Mukhtar has not attacked US interests, it has made threats against Bahrain’s key international backers, namely Washington and Riyadh.

In September, Bahraini authorities have foiled a terrorist attack against foreign diplomats based in the country after the security forces found explosive devices on the street. Bahrain accused Iran of being behind the attack, which analysts interpreted as a potential attempt to avenge Soleimani’s death.

It may be mentioned here that nearly 70 percent of Bahrainis are Shi’ite. Iran has been consistently trying to keep its influence on this Arab nation by supporting Shi’ite terrorist groups.

It may also be mentioned here that, Iran has been successful in establishing significant influence in Lebanon by funding the Hezbollah terror outfit, taking the advantage of the country’s Shi’ite population being the single-largest religious community. In fact, Iran has been making frantic bids in sponsoring terror through Shi’ite religious groups in most of the Arab countries and beyond.

The size of the Shi’ite population in the world currently is above 200 million. In the Middle East, although the Sunni population is dominant in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Yemen, Qatar, Syria, the UAE, and Jordan, there is a significant presence of the Shi’ite population, which ranges between 10-20 percent. Iran has the largest Shi’ite majority, with more than 68 million making up nearly 92 percent of the population. Shi’ite communities are also the majority in Iraq and Bahrain.

Radical Shi’ite terrorism in Western Europe

According to a CIA report, terrorist activities by Iranian-backed Shi’ite groups or Iranian agents in Western Europe have escalated since the beginning of 1984. Pro-Iranian terrorists have been involved in a number of attacks in Western Europe over the past several years. Analysts of CIA believe, operational planning by Shi’ite terrorists has been increasing and radical Shia’s have developed an independent operational capability in Europe. CIA believes, radical Shi’ite activities in the West will continue to present a serious threat to the US and the rest of the western countries.

Only segment of Shi’ite terrorism in the world

Albania: On December 19, 2018, the Albanian government expelled Iran’s ambassador to the country, Gholam Hossein Mohammad, and another Iranian diplomat for “involvement in activities that harm country’s security” and “for violating their diplomatic status and supporting terrorism”. The expelled Iranians have plotted terrorist attacks in the country.

Bahrain: On September 30, 2015, Bahraini security forces discovered a large bomb-making factory in Nuwaidrat and arrested a number of suspects linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The next day, Bahrain recalled its ambassador to Iran and asked the Iranian acting charge d’ affairs to leave the country within 72 hours after he was declared persona non-grata. Bahrain’s decision to recall its ambassador came in light of continued Iranian meddling in the affairs of the country in order to create sectarian strife and to establish Tehran’s hegemony and control.
