Great demand for the national initiative to subsidize sheep meat prices

The slaughterhouses included in the joint national initiative to encourage local production and subsidize sheep meat prices for the month of Ramadan 1444 AH – 2023 AD witnessed a great demand from citizens to buy sheep at reduced prices provided by the Ministry of Trade and Industry in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company.
The initiative aims to ensure the availability of red meat for citizens during the holy month at reasonable prices, in addition to enhancing the balance between supply and demand, which contributes to price stability in the markets.
Since its launch on March 18, the initiative’s sales volume of local sheep has reached about 11,348 thousand heads of sheep, as 2,313 sheep were sold through Al-Wakra slaughterhouse, 1,851 sheep at Umm Salal slaughterhouse, 1,780 sheep at Al-Shahaniya slaughterhouse, 754 sheep at Al-Khor slaughterhouse, and 494 sheep at Al-Khor slaughterhouse. North, in addition to selling 4,156 sheep through the electronic application of Widam.
Within the framework of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s keenness to diversify purchasing options for citizens, imported sheep were provided within the initiative, with a weight of 35 kilograms or more per sheep, at a price of 800 riyals.
It is noteworthy that the joint national initiative to encourage local production and subsidize sheep meat prices for the month of Ramadan started as of Saturday 26 Shaaban 1444 AH corresponding to March 18, 2023, and it was stipulated that slaughtering take place immediately in slaughterhouses to ensure that it reaches the target group of this initiative, and in turn the company undertakes Dam Food provided an air-conditioned tent for the beneficiaries of this initiative, divided into special places for men, women and the elderly. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry affirms that it will continue to intensify its inspection campaigns at sales outlets, in order to ensure the availability of live sheep and other foodstuffs in the markets, and the Ministry will take all necessary measures to protect
The consumer, combating commercial fraud, protecting competition and preventing monopolistic practices in order to protect the rights of consumers.
