John Madden, famous NFL coach and analyst, passes away at the age of 85

John Madden, one of the most well known and beloved coaches and sport analysts to ever walk the Hall of Fame in the world of NFL, passed away on Tuesday, the 28th of December, 2021, of purely natural causes. Not much has been released about the reasons behind his death, except that he died rather suddenly and unexpectedly. Point to be noted is that he was 85 years of age and had been quite ill for some time now.

The NFL Commissioner has sent in his condolences to the Madden family, especially his children and grandchildren, who he thinks would suffer so much more from this terrible loss. His voice has been synonymous with the NFL commentary for more than 30 years and so it is not only his family and the NFL, but also the fans all over the world, and especially in the US, who are going to suffer and be extremely sad now.

The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has also made a wonderful statement, veritably summing up how fondly John Madden will be remembered. In his statement he says, “We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.”

The NFL Commissioner also said, “Nobody liked football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today”.

Madden is most popular for the football video games that have been named after him, and that is how the present generation knows him to a great extent. But, if you asked Madden, he would give out his boisterous laugh and say that no matter what people thought about him being a game broadcaster or a video game icon, Madden would always veer towards being a coach more. Being a coach at the Oakland Raiders changed his life completely and many do not remember his prowess in the new generation. He made it at the Oakland Raiders in 1969 and at the age of 32, he was asked to be a storied franchise.

His record with the Raiders is also impeccable and one of the best there is. With a 103-32-7 record, eight playoff appearances, seven division titles and then his greatest accomplishment of all time, the Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings, John Madden deserves all the love and respect he gets and even more. The winning percentage of 0.759 that John Madden has is one of the very best for coaches with over 100 football games under their belt.

The devastated Oakland Raiders also released a teary statement along with a wonderful photograph to honour Coach Madden which said, “Few individuals meant as much to the growth and popularity of professional football as Coach Madden, whose impact on the game both on and off the field was immeasurable.”
