Liz Cheney, who lost her primary and is not going to be a member of Congress after January 2023 has declared of leaving Republican Party if Donald Trump gets nominated. Her critics say, Cheney already is “not a Republican anymore” as she has been “serving the agenda of Democrats”. They say, “Liz Cheney’s political career has already demised with her humiliating defeat in the primary”.
Now the BIG news is – Liz Cheney wants to run for presidency in 2024 as a nominee of the Republican Party, although there is not even slightest chance for her in getting nominated by the GOP. In this case, she may opt for nomination from the Democratic Party, which again is a mission impossible. A renegade Cheney is reportedly bargaining with Democratic Party policymakers for nominating her in 2024 or at least promise her the post of Vice President, if Democrats win the presidential election in 2024.
Recently, at The Texas Tribune festival, Liz Cheney said: “I’m going to make sure Donald Trump, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican”.
She also talked about how she was going to work to ensure that the Trump backed Kari lake does not become Arizona governor.
“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Kari Lake is not elected”, she said as she admitted that meant she would campaign for Democrats.
But this time she did not say whether or not she would attempt to become president.
“It’s not about me or making a decision about what I’m going to do”, she said. “I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn’t anywhere close to the Oval Office”.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene laid into outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney and urged her to go ahead and switch parties officially since she appeared to be all-in with the Democrats’ agenda.
The fiery Georgia Republican lashed out at the Wyoming lawmaker over her actions regarding what Greene described as an “anti-police” bill.
“Liz Cheney is so committed to Joe Biden and the Democrats that she just intentionally skipped an anti-police vote that Republicans could have defeated. She clearly supports the Democrat war on police”, Greene tweeted. “Go ahead and switch parties Liz before you’re out of office”.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) added: “BREAKING: the House was one vote away from defeating a Democrat anti-police bill, but Liz Cheney couldn’t be bothered to show up to vote”.
Cheney was soundly defeated during her state’s GOP primary in August by Harriet Hageman, a lawyer who was endorsed early on by former President Donald Trump.
During her concession speech, she talked about how she won her last election by a 73-point margin and how “I could easily have done the same again”.
“The path was clear. But it would have required that I go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election. It would have required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic”, she said.
“That was a path I could not and would not take”, she said, going on to compare herself to the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln.
“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all”, she said to her supporters in Jackson, Wyoming. “Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history”.
Speaking at Gettysburg of the great task remaining before us, Lincoln said, “We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from this earth.’ As we meet here tonight, that remains our greatest and most important task”, she said.
The comparison drew widespread derision and mocking, including from Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, who called it “embarrassing”.
During a segment on “The Five” in August following the primary, the table discussed Cheney’s loss to Hageman as well as her concession speech, where she also teased a 2024 presidential run.
“She compared this to the Civil War. She is nuts, ok? She is overtaken with such obsession and such emotional bitterness that she has this kind of grandiose view of herself and it’s actually now getting embarrassing. It’s embarrassing for her. I wish she had a friend that could take her aside and say, ‘You’ve got to calm down.’ Don’t run for office, you’re not going to get a national office”, Gutfeld began.
“At best, you’re going to get Office Depot. Republicans hate you, the Democrats don’t want you, this all driven by some emotional brokenness that happened from Trump. She goes all the way back to the Civil War — of course, she didn’t mention the Iraq War or the Afghanistan War, because that cuts a little too close to home. Or to dad. And then she compares herself to Abe Lincoln. People say that Trump has an ego, but when he says stuff like that, it’s usually with a wink and then everybody’s laughing”, he added.
“There’s nothing in her eye but spite. It’s such a personal vendetta from day one. And I get it, Trump had no use for the Cheneys and the Cheneys had no use for Trump. I get it, but the party has moved on from this sort of thing. She hasn’t. We’ve heard about this. The struggles to the Civil War, we’ve been told it’s the end of democracy. Trump supporters are evil, Adam Kinzinger said that two days ago. Trump supporters are evil and she’s fighting evil. How is that — how is that not incitement? You can’t criticize the FBI, but you can smear millions of people because orange Hitler, right?”, Gutfeld concluded.
