Mayra Flores accuses Nancy Pelosi of abusing child

Congress’ newest member, GOP Representative Mayra Flores of Texas, has responded to a video that appears to show House Speaker Nancy Pelosi elbowing one of her daughters during Flores’ swearing-in ceremony.

“I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her,” Flores said in a tweet containing a video of the alleged incident that took place during the June 21 ceremony.

“She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen,” Flores said of her daughter. “No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!” she added in the tweet.

Flores was responding to actor James Woods’ original tweet that contained the video clip. Woods said: “I love this princess stood her ground, while Nancy showed her true colors.”

Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hammill commented on the incident, saying, “It’s sad to see “news outlets” that know better misrepresent the Speaker’s effort to ensure Rep. Flores’ daughters wouldn’t be hidden behind her in all of the photos of such an important moment for their family.”

The Daily Wire adds:

The video showed Pelosi waving her hands as she spoke — and then as she turned to see Flores’ daughter standing close to her, she used her elbow to push the young girl to the side. Flores’ daughter seemed unfazed by the whole situation, continuing to smile and moving back to her original spot as soon as Pelosi dropped her arm back to her side.

During the ceremony, Pelosi welcomed Flores, 30, to Congress.

“It’s a great honor to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations,” she said. “And again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who is here today.”

Flores has made headlines several times over the past couple of weeks, most recently when HBO “Real Time” host and comedian Bill Maher cited her race on Friday as proof that Democrats were losing ground fast with Hispanics, a demographic they previously owned almost exclusively.

“The campaign manager for the losing Democrat said, ‘We gave up a reliably Democratic Congressional seat for no reason at all. We deserve to know why.’ Well, aside from your terrible attitude, I’m going to tell you why,” Maher explained.

“Because these voters stopped seeing your candidate as their lawyer. That’s why. Their message to you was, ‘I’m an American now. I’m here. Be my lawyer, not the lawyer for the migrants showing up in my backyard,’” he added, alluding to President Joe Biden’s lax border enforcement policies that have led to historic numbers of migrants crossing illegally into the country.

And earlier this month, Flores won a special election in a south Texas district that had been in the hands of Democrats for 150 years.

Her race is likely a microcosm for what is to come in the November midterms as Biden’s popularity has tanked along with the economy and border security.

The Daily Wire added in a separate report:

Flores beat Democrat Dan Sanchez in the special election for Texas’ 34th Congressional District. The seat was previously held by Rep. Filemon Vela (D) who stepped down earlier this year to become a lobbyist as all signs pointed to a brutal upcoming midterm election season for Democrats.

Flores is now “the first GOP candidate to represent that area of the Rio Grande Valley since 1870,” the Houston Chronicle reported, adding that she is now “the first congresswoman born in Mexico.”

The region has been devastated by Democrat President Joe Biden’s border crisis, something that has turned off many Hispanic voters that typically have voted for Democrats in the past.

“In her victory tonight, Republican @MayraFlores2022 flipped 85% Hispanic Cameron County in Texas. Hillary Clinton won Cameron by 33 points in 2016 and Biden won it by 13. The Hispanic shift to the GOP is the most important story in American politics today,” noted public relations specialist Giancarlo Sopo.

MSNBC columnist Eric Michael Garcia sounded a panicked alarm regarding the election’s results, saying that Democrats needed to be doing the same thing, and quickly.

“There is a political earthquake happening in Latino politics in South Texas and there is a reason I have been saying it will be voting like West Virginia,” he tweeted. “But like @SeanTrende , I expected this in two decades. #TX34. This should be a five alarm fire for Democrats”.
