It may also be mentioned here that, Nazmus Saquib of ‘Nagorik TV’ is in the United States as an asylum-seeker with false claim, while Tito Rahman, who currently lives in Canada and a cohort of Saquib is accused of having links with Al Qaeda.

Because of specific allegations against Tito Rahman and Nazmus Saquib – two kingpins of this notorious entity of involvement in numerous forms of criminal activities, including extortion, blackmailing and character assassination of various individuals, all other people who were previously involved with it has disassociated with ‘Nagorik TV’, which is proved from the website page of this platform. It may be mentioned here that, 37-48 72nd Street is a House located in the Jackson Heights neighborhood in Queens, NY. 37-48 72nd Street was built in 1925 and has 2 stories and 2 units. There is no existence of any entity named ‘Nagorik TV’ in this property.

‘Nagorik TV’ a violator of US laws

‘Nagorik TV’, which claims to be registered in the United States with a “studio” in Canada has been involved in extortion, blackmailing, character assassination and other forms of criminal activities, which are direct violations of Federal blackmail and extortion law 18 U.S.C § 873. The law says:

It’s a crime to use threats or extortion to persuade someone to provide you with benefits or to compel them to behave in a certain manner.

You could face charges under state laws if you engage in threatening type behavior, but it’s also possible to face federal criminal charges, which carries more severe penalties.

This type of federal crime is a serious issue and not all defense attorneys handle federal extortion cases as it requires expertise in federal criminal defense as they are often complex cases.

Blackmail, sometimes referred to as extortion, is the practice of:

demanding money from someone in exchange for

not reporting or keeping secret some embarrassing information about the individual.

Under Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 873, a more specific subset of blackmail or extortion is prohibited as a federal crime

Specifically, 18 U.S.C. § 873 punishes anyone who either demands or receives money, or any other valuable thing, under the threat of informing, or as consideration for not informing, against any violation of United States law.

Put in common terms, this statute criminalizes blackmail related to the victim’s own violations of law.

In other words, extortion cases often involve someone calling a person or actually meeting them and then attempt to get that person to give some money or do something for them, or give some type of valuable consideration as part of a plot to extort them.

In some cases, tape-recorded conversations are used, but there are many different angles used in order to carry out the extortion.

18 U.S.S. § 873 Blackmailing or extortion penalties:

Blackmail or extortion under Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 873 is a federal crime punishable by:

up to one year in federal prison, a fine, or both imprisonment and a fine.

The actual sentence received by the defendant will vary depending on the factors contained in the United States Sentencing Guidelines, the equitable factors contained in Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 3553(a), and are subject to the relatively broad discretion of the sentencing judge.

For a first time offender, it may be possible to secure a non-custodial sentence through sentencing alternatives such as home confinement, community service, drug treatment, etc.

The particular facts and circumstances of each case will vary, particularly with respect to the defendant’s prior criminal history and mitigating factors related to their background and character.

Attempt of blackmailing BLiTZ editor

In the defamatory post on the website and social media pages of ‘Nagorik TV’ this notorious crime gang wrote:

“Why Shoaib is not in prison? Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, who is guilty of various crimes like espionage for foreign countries, including Israel; molestation of women, trying to grab property of his blood relative; and defaming people’s character through dubious portal, etc. How and with whose help Shoaib was released from the sentence? Stay tuned to know. Nagorik TV special report is coming!”

Then “Nagorik TV’ kingpin Nazmus Saquib sent a text message from Telegram apps to BLiTZ editor Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury.

In the message sent from Telegram to BLiTZ editor’s mobile number, extortionist Nazmus Saquib wrote: “Mr. Shoeb Chowdhury, this is Nazmus Saquib (Nagorik TV), I am giving you last warning to remove all the false and defamatory articles that you wrote against me & Nagorik TV. Otherwise we will expose every detail of your butpari”.

The above Telegram message once again proves the notoriety of these criminals and how they are manufacturing false stories targeting various individuals including pro-Bangladesh forces such as BLiTZ and its editor.

Following receipt of threat message from Nazmus Saquib’s Telegram number +1-251-643-3554, BLiTZ has already brought the matter to the matter to the attention of law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the US. It may be mentioned here that ‘251’ is a city code of Alabama in the United States. Earlier on October 7, 2022 at 09:58 am, an individual called our Special Correspondent from a mobile phone number +44-20-8616-5694 and pretended to be Tito Rahman, the infamous extortionist of the ‘Nagorik TV’ crime racket. Tito, who does not have any journalistic background fled Bangladesh when his name came up as a member of a militancy outfit.

As Nazmus Saquib has clearly committed crime by making attempt of blackmailing and threatening the editor of BLiTZ, US authorities now need to immediate arrest this culprit, place him under trial, and finally deport him to Bangladesh.
