The Qatari-Russian business meeting is looking to strengthen trade relations

Engineer Ali bin Abdul Latif Al-Misnad, member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Chamber, said that the State of Qatar and the Russian Federation have distinguished relations in all fields, especially economic and trade, and that there are many agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two sides to enhance trade, economic and technical cooperation.
This came during the Qatari-Russian business meeting, which was held via videoconference yesterday, Wednesday, March 22, with the participation of a number of Qatari and Russian companies in various sectors.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Vardrian Surin, Vice President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ms. Tatyana Rashkevich, Deputy Director General of the Russian-Qatari Business Council, in addition to a number of government officials in Moscow.
Al-Misnad noted that the State of Qatar was the guest country at the St. Petersburg International Economic Conference 2021, which witnessed a large Qatari participation and served as an important platform for strengthening joint cooperation relations and signing several partnership agreements between the two sides.
He pointed out that during the conference, more than 60 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed between Qatari and Russian companies and institutions in the fields of business, investment, trade, sports, tourism, education and others.
He said that the volume of trade between the two countries last year amounted to 566 million riyals, noting that there are many Russian companies operating in the Qatari market in various sectors, and that there are many Qatari investments in Russia in the banking and petrochemical sectors, adding that Qatar is considered one of the largest countries. Gulf countries that have investments in Russia.
Al-Misnad also stressed the interest of Qatari businessmen in strengthening cooperation with their Russian counterparts, as well as identifying available investment opportunities, as well as welcoming Russian investments in all sectors, especially in light of the availability of advanced infrastructure, appropriate legislation and an attractive investment climate.
A member of the Qatar Chamber’s Board of Directors said that the Chamber encourages Qatari investors to enter into partnerships and establish trade alliances and investment projects with their Russian counterparts in a way that benefits the economies of the two friendly countries.
For his part, Mr. Vardrian Surin, Vice-President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the meeting brings together a distinguished group of Qatari and Russian businessmen to discuss joint cooperation, pointing out that there is interest from both sides to enhance further cooperation and establish effective partnerships that benefit the economies of the two countries.
He pointed out that there is cooperation between the two sides in various sectors, including retail, hospitality and energy, expressing his hope to see more partnership in sectors such as advanced technology, as there are many investment opportunities available in Russia in this sector.
He also welcomed the visit of a Qatari business delegation to Russia to meet with their Russian counterparts and discuss cooperation relations in specific sectors.
For her part, Ms. Tatiana Rashkevich, Deputy Director General of the Russian-Qatari Business Council, said that the Council was keen to organize this event to provide a platform for business owners from both sides to discuss prospects for joint cooperation and explore investment opportunities available in each aspect.
During the meeting, both sides made a set of presentations by a number of Qatari and Russian companies operating in various fields.
