United Russia party Chairman Dmitry Medvedev proposed to consider imposing sanctions on supporters of Poland’s Law and Justice party in response to calls by Warsaw to do the same with regards to United Russia members.

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki earlier said that the country’s government is pushing the European Union to impose sanctions on all members of the United Russia party. The party numbers more than 2 million members.

“In response to the initiative of the Polish pseudo-premier Morawiecki, who went completely off the rails owing to Russophobia, and proposed imposing sanctions against all members of the United Russia party, we can consider imposing symmetrical sanctions against all members and, in general, all those who vote for” Law and Justice, also known by its acronym PiS, Medvedev said, as quoted by Oleg Osipov, an aide to Medvedev in his capacity as deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council. “While we are at it, we will name all the villains in Poland.”

After the Law and Justice party won elections in 2015, Morawiecki was invited to join the government of Beata Szydlo. He took the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Development Minister, becoming Finance Minister in September 2016. Although Morawiecki was a member of a cabinet formed by PiS, he didn’t join the ruling party until March 2016.

On December 7, 2017, after the resignation of Beata Szydlo, the Law and Justice party nominated Morawiecki for this post. On December 12, the Sejm (the lower house of parliament) of Poland passed a vote of confidence in him.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called upon the European Union to impose sanctions against all members of the United Russia party

“At the last EU summit, we proposed sanctions against all members of the United Russia party”, Mateusz Morawiecki said. According to him, “everyone is responsible.”

There are more than two million members of United Russia.
