Bangla cinema actress Keya’s two decades of acting career

To millions of fans of Bangla cinema, Sabrina Sultana Keya is known as Keya. Her debut movie ‘Kothhin Bastob’ was released in 2001 and became a blockbuster. Directed by popular filmmaker Montazur Rahman Akbar, this film brought name and fame for Keya. She has played the lead role along side actors like Riaz and Amin Khan. Seeing grand success of ‘Kothhin Bastob’, directors and producers in Dhaka’s film industry became interested in casting Keya in their movie ventures. Since then, she has acted in several movies, including ‘Rongbaz Badsha’, ‘Bhalobashar Shotru’, ‘Diwana Mastan’, ‘Sahoshi Manush Chai’ and ‘Ayna Kahini’.

Story and screenplay of ‘Kothhin Bastob’ was written by Abdullah Zahir Babu.

Her film ‘Sahoshi Manush Chai’ won National Film Award in two categories in 2003. The actress was last seen in ‘Black Money’ which was released in 2015.

Currently, Keya has been signed in three films – Rakibul Alam Rakib’s ‘Yes Madam’, Shahin Shumon’s ‘Bonolota’ and another film by popular director Ali Azad. Due to the pandemic, shooting of these movies has to be put on pause while according to Keya, shooting will start soon.

Keya feels thrilled thinking about her two-decades of career in the film industry. She expressed her gratitude to the directors, co-artists, journalists and fans. In her words, Thanks to all my directors, co-artistes, journalists, and my fans. They have made me who I’m today”.

Sabrina Sultana Keya also has appeared in several TV commercials as model as well has also worked in TV dramas. For the last few months, Keya had to limit her works due to the pandemic as well as physical illness of her mother.

Commenting on Bangladesh’s entertainment industry, Keya said, as now various digital platforms are opening, prospect of Bangla cinema and drama are also getting expanded, which is good news for every member of country’s entertainment industry. She hopes, Bangladesh film and drama industry will continue to prosper.

She has received several awards including Bachsach Award, Dhallywood Award etc.
