Bangladesh cine actress Pori Moni gets bail in narcotic case

After 25 days of remaining in prison, actress of Bangladesh film, Pori Moni alias Smriti Moni was granted bail by the Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Dhaka.

According to media reports, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh granted the bail against BDT 20 thousand bond. The bail will remain valid until the probe report or charge-sheet or the final report is submitted.

The bail hearing date was fixed after the High Court’s August 26 rule, asking the lower court concerned to reply as to why it shall not pass an order to hear Pori Moni’s bail within two days of receiving the High Court’s order.

The High Court in its rule also asked as to why it shall not quash the lower court’s August 22 order that had set September 13 for holding a hearing on the actor’s bail plea in the narcotics case.

Pori Moni’s lawyer Advocate Mozibur Rahman filed the bail plea on August 22.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court had set September 13 for holding a hearing on the matter. The defence later moved to the High Court with the bail plea.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Pori Moni on August 4 from her Banani flat in Dhaka and seized huge amounts of foreign liquors and different drugs from there.

A minibar was found at Pori Moni’s residence where she regularly arranged parties, RAB said.

RAB brought drugs-related charges against Pori Moni and her aide Dipu in the case filed with Banani police station on August 6.

Meanwhile, authorities of the Kashimpur Central Jail (Part-2) have informed Pori Moni about her bail and she would be released immediately after the prison authorities receive the bail order. A source in Dhaka court said, the bail order may reach the Kashimpur Central Jail by tonight.

Members of Bangladesh print and electronic media have already started rushing to the Kashimpur Central Jail to cover the release of the popular actress Pori Moni.

Talking to this correspondent, a source said, on her release from prison, Pori Moni may arrange a press conference within a couple of days, where her lawyers will also be present.
