Celebrated movie actor Babita in Satyajit Roy’s ‘Oporajito Satyajit’

Satyajit Ray is an Oscar-winning film director from India is considered one of the best filmmakers of the twentieth century. May 21 this year was the birth centennial of this globally-acclaimed filmmaker. On his birthday, a special tribute was paid to him. On August 26, ‘Aparajito Satyajit’ was published by the Center for Journalism and Mass Communication, Kalyani University, Kolkata, India.

The book is written by 55 eminent authors from eight countries of the world such as Bangladesh, France, United States, France, England, Japan, Germany, Canada and India. Celebrated actor of Bangladesh film, Babita is the only person who also got the opportunity of writing a memoir on Satyajit Roy in this book. It may be mentioned here that, Babita played key role in Roy’s movie Ashani Sanket. Participation of Babita in book about Satyajit Roy makes her extremely honored and delighted. The introduction of the book is written by legendary actor Sharmila Tagore, who has also worked in Satyajit Roy’s films. Tagore is the granddaughter of Poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Expressing her excitement about writing memoir of Satyajit Roy in Aparijito Satyajit, Babita, who now is in Canada told this correspondent over phone: “I consider myself extremely fortunate for working in a film by world-renowned filmmaker Satyajit Roy. As a Bangladeshi actor, I became known all over the world only by acting in his movie. That’s why I’ve participated in more international film festivals, including Berlin and the Soviet Union. People in Bangladesh still feel proud of my working in Ray’s film. In my home in Dhaka, portrait of Manik Da (Satyajit Roy’s nickname) is everywhere. He will always remain in my heart”.

Babita expressed her profound gratitude to the Center for Journalism and Mass Communication for publishing the book.

Satyajit Ray’s full-length Bangla feature film Pather Panchali was released on August 26, 1955. This film attained huge appreciation from around the world.
