On the occasion of National Mourning Day (August 15), a special drama titled ‘Jochhna’ has been released on ‘Crown Plus’ YouTube channel, which is owned by Crown Entertainment, one of the leading production companies in Bangladesh.

Based on the story by Shoaib Choudhury, the screenplay of this special drama is written by Ferari Farhad and directed by eminent actress Golam Farida Chhanda. This is the debut direction of Chhanda, where she also has played the central role. Shatabdi Wadud, Shampa Reza, Arman Parvez Murad, Imran Hasu, Badal and many others have acted in different roles in Jochhna.

It may be mentioned here that on the occasion of National Mourning Day and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Crown Entertainment has produced several dramas, telefilms and special length films, such as Jonok O Shontan (Father and the Child), directed by freedom fighter and filmmaker Nur Mohammad Moni, story by Shoaib Choudhury, screenplay by Ferari Farhad; Kamaruddi’r Kombol (Kamaruddi’s Blanket), directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, story by Masum Reza; Amader Khoka (Our Khoka), written and directed by Sumon Dhar; Runner, directed by Golam Sohrab Dodul, story by Shoaib Choudhury; etcetera.

No other production company in the Bangladesh has taken such an initiative.

In the context of dramas, telefilms and special length films made on the occasion of National Mourning Day and Bangabandhu’s centenary, Nur Mohammad Moni, freedom fighter and renowned film director said, such initiatives certainly deserve appreciation. In the future, I hope that the company (Crown Entertainment) shall take the initiative to produce full-length films and telefilms on the Liberation War and Bangabandhu and release those on the international OTT platforms.

Tajul Islam, Deputy CEO of Crown Entertainment said, “We had plans to produce many more dramas and telefilms during the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, which could not be implemented due to sudden COVID situation. Moreover, to our utter dismay, we did not get positive response from the sponsors or the TV channels, which is essential for the implementation of such projects.

Regarding the reluctance of the sponsors or the television channels, Syed Iqbal, Chief Operating Officer of Crown Creations said, “It’s truly troubling and sad that sponsors and TV channels in Bangladesh are almost unwilling to support the production of dramas, telefilms and films on our great liberation war and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Such tendencies are truly unacceptable”.
