The Mumbai crime branch has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a Bollywood actor’s daughter with her private pictures.
The man had threatened to make the pictures public if she did not pay money to him.
According to a report in Times of India, the accused has been identified as Qumail Hanif Patani, a resident of Malad in Mumbai. He was nabbed by crime branch unit 11 and charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including outraging the modesty of woman and demanding extortion. The accused has also been charged under the Information Technology Act.
Interestingly, the sister of the accused was known to the victim as she studied with her in the same college.
According to the complainant, she recently received messages on the Instagram account and the accused told her that he knows her from college days and possesses her private pictures.
“The accused sent the messages to the victim through social media and also immediately deleted them to erase his footprints. Qumail had threatened the actor’s daughter to make her pictures viral. He then called the girl and demanded extortion,” the report quoted senior inspector Chimaji Adhav.
The threats by the accused scared the girl and she said she could only pay him between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.
Later, when the accused demanded more money, she informed her parents and got a complaint registered at Bangur Nagar police station. The cops nabbed Patani from his house on Thursday after laying a trap.
